The other problem though is how the expanded tournament has made hosting it an unappealing and even unfeasible prospect for most countries. Hence why Euro 2020 is being played all over Europe, nobody was willing to give hosting it a go.

It's a bit of a catch 22, because I do think 16 is slightly too small considering the depth of European teams there is now. But 32 is too many and makes qualifying a farce.
