How about if they were available at approximately the same fee and wages (which I don't think is far from reality, and that's before even mentioning we're offering a loan, not a flat out transfer)? I just reckon any bids would have been of the pisstaking variety anyway. No club who would be interested in him (West Ham, Stoke, us, mackems, Villa, whoever) can really justify or afford a £15 million fee or his wages so would have been looking to take him on loan or with a subsidised deal. I don't think him being offered about behind closed doors through agents is that much different to making it publically known that they are looking to get rid. The only thing is it's a bit of a dick move to an employee and fellow professional, especially if he's done it without speaking to him. I don't think it weakens their hand all that much though.
