West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll

His era? So the noughties? Who is better? David Villa is/was certainly better, Torres at his peak, Ronaldo can just about fall into the era and Henry stand out straight away. In more recent times Aguero, Higuain and Rooney are all better. Jesus fucking christ. -

Ryan Taylor @TaylorR1984 What an experience that was. White water rafting was class. Best part was without a boat. #Decent

I'd love to know how Eto'o is overhyped. He literally couldn't have achieved anything more than he has done. Amazing at a little club, fantastic record once he stepped up to Barca, the ultimate big game player (including 2 CL final goals). Then he went Italy and proved he could do not only the selfless team role under Mourinho, but the following season he stuck two fingers up to the deep defensive lines in Serie A and scored and assisted an absolute shitload carrying a team on his back. Oh and he's got one of the best international records going. Phenomenal player. -

It's all relative, it's a concept that most don't want to understand. No, it shows what complete clown you are. If them 2 are s*** then just about every striker in the world is. No, they're s*** in the way that they've overhyped, they're still obviously good players. Eto'o is probably a little better than my opinion, because I really dislike him, but Benzema is certainly no superstar, although people are starting to understand that now. Benzema's form this season was one of the key reasons for Real winning the league No, no it wasn't. Aye, his 21 goals and 7 assists and creating numerous more chances in 34 games were all irrelevant to Madrid's success. Did I deny that he did well? He did well, as any decent striker in that team would do, but are people trying to suggest he's a game changer or without him they wouldn't have won the league? Considering the replacement would be Higuain I highly doubt that. Well the fact he's keeping Higuain out of the team tell's it own story. Not really, Higuain is a better footballer and has proved that pretty much throughout his career. Every manager has his favourites. You're talking our of your arse again Ali. -
Moses attitude is fine and working with Martinez has made him much better at the off the ball stuff than Hoilett is. He looked to be finally turning into a consistent player towards the end of the season, not worth £10 million though.

We got Tiote for only a few hundred grand more from the same club didn't we? Remember WBA being interested at the time but nobody really other than that.

I would put more stock into Ali's post if he didn't think the likes of Eto'o and Benzema were 'shit'. -

Same when he was here, you can probably find the evidence of it from a couple of years ago on here, if you're sad. Genuinely celebrated heavily on that 31st of January 2011. I knew then it was a great thing for the club, and it has proved to be. I never want to see him back here, Andy Carroll is a black mark on Newcastle United and a black mark on English football. -

If he does, he does. If Inter want him that badly, they'll surely react accordingly to any further bids we make. Their manager has said that they need to find a replacement first. So, it's logical to assume that there'll be little movement until they get one.

Agree, but far more worried about them wanting Cisse for Carroll. The fact we haven't seen hide nor hair of Papis, and he hasn't been mentioned at all by our side, but plenty by Liverpool fans worries me. (Still don't fully trust you know who) He's there with the squad but ill (hence why he missed the last game). -

No but it wouldn't be the first time they paid over the odds for a mid-table English player.
-
We were mid-table when he was here, Liverpool became firmly mid-table with him and now a raft of mid-table clubs are interested in him. Maybe he's mid-table.
-
It's actually unbelievable how predictable he is in the transfer market. Thing is he would surely acknowledge who their best player was during his spell so far and who is easily their best player in the squad, yet doesn't think about what a clever idea it might be to try and get more players like him.
-
I'd rather we got all our players in before the Spurs game like but I get the point you're making.

I can barely remember us scoring a headed goal from crosses into the box all season. One near the end from Cisse and one right at the start from Ba. Yes we've put crosses into the box that have been finished by forwards and we've cut balls across the box but I hardly think putting quality aerial service in is the strength of our players and particularly not Ben Arfa's strengths. I certainly don't want to bring in a static forward who thrives on crosses into the box especially when we finally hit on something far more dynamic in our best run all season. Again I see him nothing more as an option from the bench or a squad player who we have to build the side around, which wouldn't be worth the investment that it would ultimately take to get him (now or at the end of a loan). Another thing about Carroll's aerial presence was that many of our crosses were played in from deep - you didnt see Barton sprinting all the way to the byline. it's an inferior type of cross but because we had Nolan arriving from deep and Carroll (and shola) in there to unsettle it worked a treat... for a mid-table side. One of the main things he's been criticised for is when crosses have been put into the box from the byline by whoever at Liverpool he hasn't anticipated or got into the position to meet the cross. Again an example of what I was saying his biggest weakness is, his natural movement and anticipation. Hughton had our system drilled and perfected it has to be said. It worked very well and everybody knew their role and function, including Carroll. He always knew what was happening. Pards' first game against Liverpool is a good example, it was very much still Hughton's team and that first goal in particular was perfect set-piece play. Kevin Nolan will never score as many league goals again and Joey Barton will never get as many assists again. They all benefited off each other in that pattern of play. Our football was certainly not hoofball when it worked with Hughton. We knocked it around very well at times, look at the game against the mackems for example. But while we knocked it around efficiently and effectively the way inwhich we ultimately found the net was often through the same well-drilled pattern of play. -

Or maybe that is just a rare example that is not particularly indicative of his natural attributes coming as the 6th goal in a game where the opposition were practically in the dressing room. I am not trying to detract from an excellent goal (and good assist from Xisco actually) but that is one of very few examples and certainly not something that I would say is Carroll's natural strength in his game.
