That's a bit of a stupid thing to say, given the fact our defence was just about the strongest part of the side that season (03-04). watch it back - some absolute howlers from the pair of them. Sliced and shit clearances, poor man marking, alarming lapses in concentration. I watched 05/06 recently. Boumsong really WAS as terrible as I remember him.

In terms of fullbacks I think only Lahm and Coentrao have looked better in this tournament. Only game where he looked dodgy was the one the last one when he played right wing. It is very hard to find good fullbacks. Van der Wiel is supposed to be worth a lot of money and he looked extremely poor in this tournament.

The only reason Johnson isn't consistent really is because he doesn't consistently play. He's a squad player in the best squad in the league. When he does play his goalscoring and creating stats are sound. I thought he was good the few games he played for England post World Cup too. Scored a couple of goals.

Probs. I think he's definitely Argentina's best CB based on who's in Europe and the mugs from the Argie league I've seen playing for them. It's absolutely daft he doesn't get in their squad. Can't really think of who else. Samuel and Lucio are both getting on now.
