You're going on like we're quietly building on what we have when in reality we've simply replaced our best players for the most part. When do we spend some money then? When do these pricks run out of excuses? If they've dug themselves into a hole where they have to spend an extra couple of million on 3-4 players that we need to progress then I fucking well expect them to dig themselves out of the hole rather than leaving us short yet again.

You forgot that we made Ben Arfa a permanent squad member. Oh, indeed we did. Positive move as that potentially was, it's hardly something that was going to benefit us in the short-term. In truth, we're still waiting to see whether that move works out, same with Gosling who we signed over 12 months ago now. You fail to mention that most managers avoid the January transfer window due to the poor value it offers. We were wise not to panic buy last January and we were wise not to panic buy this summer. I'd rather see the club stable and secure making well thought out transfers than overspending on rushed deals. Piss off man, where does it all end? £16m for Robert and Bellamy seemed a fair whack of money at the time but it moved us on. It's a whole different ball game now but the principle is the same - make profits every single transfer window and you'll tread water at best, simple as. We shouldn't spend money in January, we shouldn't spend money in the summer ffs. Absolute bollocks.

Annoys me thinking about January tbh, we had the chance in the last January window to back a new manager and sold our most valuable player on deadline day, needlessly got rid of Routledge on loan, recruited known crock/headcase Ireland on loan. Can see it being another shit window tbh, our heads will still be spinning after spending half a million net this summer. If things are going "well" (i.e. we're 3+ points off third bottom) then they'll probably not even feel the need to strengthen whatsoever.

Fuck this thread.

I blame him sitting around in a Jesmond hotel for the last month! If he only plays a handful of games this season then we're a shoe-in to get him on the cheap next summer.

Same as above, when it's sluggish it's really sluggish - I'll usually have a break for half an hour then give it another whirl and it's fine.

This reminds me of when Insomnia left.

As I said earlier on I don't think it's even that important if we bid or not - if we bid in the full knowledge that there isn't a hope in hell it will come off then it's practically the same thing. I do wonder why the Ridgewell bid didn't come off though, haven't seen as much said or written about that. Wasn't it meant to have been a swap deal. No way was that ever getting done in time. Sounds about right.

We've got such form for this though, we do it most windows and never get anyone in. If they were that intent on getting a striker in then they'd have learnt from experience and not left it until the last day.

What's the point in a bid if there is zero chance of it being accepted? Story of our summer.

 The last few pages of this thread have been phenomenal.

"Bulgaria's a shithole, I wanna go home", classy that like.

Very tough to get players over the line, selling clubs playing hard ball, very close with a couple of players but just run out of time, we will do everything we can to ensure the right players are brought in January, we need to make sure they were right for us, blah blah blah. Yeah, I still want to hear him actually say it.

Looked a bit like this...

Yep. Should have at the very least spoke to the supporters first thing this morning. I do find it strange like - he likes a bit chat normally, does Alan.

By the looks of the responses of some people in here, I guess I'm wrong. I honestly don't think he's done that amazing a job on the pitch. The second half of last season was not nearly as bad as I'd feared but it's hardly something that I'd call progress. There were some fucking minging performances after he arrived imo, and we drew far too many games which seemed to paper over the cracks somewhat. We have 7 points from the first 3 games and I'm absolutely delighted with that, but truth be told we haven't played that well yet. I do think he's doing an OK job under the circumstances as it happens, but when people mention 'on the pitch' stuff with Pardew you'd have thought we'd came on leaps and bounds under his leadership. On field he gets a 6 from me, off field a 2 or a 3. As a person, I cannot stand him.

I agree that changing the manager this season is the one thing that will likely see us in relegation trouble, but look at the circumstances in which Pardew arrived. Plucked from the League 1 scrapheap and given a 5 and a half year contract - I find it difficult to believe that he's not aware that he'll have to feed the fans bullshit on a regular basis, or even if you're being kind to him that he didn't have an inkling that he couldn't take what MA and DL said at face value. As I say though, I agree that him leaving any time soon would probably be disastrous. It's a depressing state of affairs.
