Hate both clubs. Southampton are a classic bunch of "dirty northern bastards" & "we pay your benefits" bunch of pricks. And Matt Le Flat Earth has hated us forever for whatever reason.

There's fuck all wrong with wanting the best for the club. Shouldnt have to explain yourself for being disappointed with 7th and no Europe next season. It's not entitlement, it's just massive disappointment after seeing us beat PSG one season to not even qualifying for the 3rd tier competition the next.

Raise of hands if you wrote off Anthony Gordon when he was first linked? Asking for a friend
Two completely different types of player at different stages of their careers. Gordon was young, very raw and had a big rep for being an utter cunt, chucking himself to the deck at the slightest touch and diving in like a child when things weren't going his way. DCL appears to be a good professional with a huge question mark over his injury record. People who were for the Gordon transfer at the time were purely guessing that he was going to turn out like this (Very few expected his professional approach he discussed in the GNev interview). There was little to his game that suggested he was going to be this good this early into his Newcastle career. It's the same with DCL. Nobody knows what his injury record is going to be like over the next 4/5 years. Fingers crossed (if we sign him) it turns out at least half as well as the Gordon transfer has turned out to be.

Honestly, some of you will get your knickers in a twist over absolutely anything

Also, why is this in the pre-season thread? It isn’t pre-season. It’s still the 23/24 season. We’re just daft enough to have organised friendlies in Australia at the end of it.
We didn't organise it, did we?

If the whole point was to drum up support, raise our commercial side outside the UK, to build a more global brand to work on helping with FFP, then we need supporters wherever we can get them. This tour will have been a failure in those terms, it's not a good look at all.
Was it? I thought we just went because we were being paid a daft amount to do so.

The main point of the games was to increase our profile (I believe). We were there for 2 games. We effectively turned up for a kick around with first teamers against Spurs and then we have completely stuck 2 fingers up in the second game.
It’s not a good look and I’d have been pissed off and frankly been a little embarrassed as a paying Newcastle fan. If I was an Aussie looking for a side to support and had paid for that, we’d now be bottom of my list. We’d have been better off doing a meet and greet with the players still there and forego whatever we were paid for the second game.
Oh well.

As you say, we aren’t able to spend before that date. That’s why I don’t believe the rumours about the Valencia keeper.
You don't believe we've got around 100k to add to the books between now and the next PSR period?

He was never a left winger in the PL. Would have been much more productive in the middle of a more modern formation.
Remember that being the general consensus on here.

Joe Aribo is never ever a winger!
Why Southampton signed him and played him there that season in the Premier League, I will never know.
Looks like they finally realised he's a central midfielder and he's been doing well there of late for them in the Championship.
I'd have him ahead of Longstaff every single time.
He'd probably be no worse. Neither can trap a bag of cement.

Ah, Yes! I remember those days. May I spise your memory with this little gem that sprung to mind: Sylvain Marveaux
I was genuinely excited about that transfer, given we supposedly beat Liverpool to the deal. Not a bad player, just completely unsuited to us.

I've been to the PPF and some Home Office spaces around there, used it for my lunch once or twice and thought it was decent tbh. There was other people in there with me too, although this was pre-pandemic.
