Not worthy of a thread - 2018 FIFA World Cup edition
jdckelly replied to OzzieMandias's topic in Football
Matt Dickinson @DickinsonTimes 14s Blatter wants to cut European places at World Cup. This is Platini's riposte - increase from 32 to 40 with extra team(s) for each continent god almighty why do FIFA want to ruin their own tournement -
while sacking Pardew does nothing to solve the other major issues. Best case scenario if he's sacked some uninspiring mate of JFK's sits in the dugout and same shit all over again same complaints. Worst case scenario its JFK himself which is a rather unbearable prospect. All the while no investment no change to transfer policy no change to ambition. Changing the manager is the only thing we can realistically hope for though, isn't it. Ashley's not going anywhere, Kinnear is his mate and we're clearly not going to be revamping the squad. People are quite obviously focussing on the most expendable part of the system. I get why but simply put its just not a POV I share, managing any premier league side is a hard job, managing this club in particular under Mike Ashley is considerably more difficult than any other job out there so I will always have a sympathetic view. As an outsider, i have to say, really? Is it really that difficult? I watched your game today, and even though you went a goal down early into the game, I thought that if you got an equaliser, there was no way on earth you wouldn't have gone on to win that game. Your squad isn't just slightly better than theirs, it is in a different fucking universe. It's in a different universe to ours, too. I can't think of a single player in that Sunderland side who would get a regular run out in your side. So how on earth did you manage to spunk that away today? They're a fucking awful side, they ran around and chased the ball down more than you did, but by half time, I thought they looked fucked. Once more, I am an outsider looking in, so I am probably ignorant of things that I should know, but from my point of view, whilst Ashley makes lots of dreadful errors - banning the press, that ridiculous Kinnear situation etc etc - it looks to me like almost the entirety of last season and chunks of this season so far, Pardew has managed to fashion a side which is far less than the sum of its parts. Today was a perfect example of this. Footballs full of surprises, last week we played very well against a much better side and played the same system today with the only difference enforced in the lack of any cbs available but there was a gulf in application and effort by the players and I really don't get how or why it can happen.

they won't, Newcastle are not a big enough story for any kind of consistent pressure on Ashley. Couple of column inches here and there but nothing we haven't heard before and won't hear again.

Very odd stance to take. You will "always" have a sympathetic view? So he'll deserve to keep his job regardless of how poor he is at it? I know this is an easy jibe to take but I suspect it's a lot easier to take derby defeats on a regular basis when you don't have to go to work and sit next to the horrible bastards in about eight hours time. If Pardew had been sacked at the end of last season I couldn't have really argued against it except on the principle of sacking after every poor season hadn't gotten us anywhere before. This season as I've stated before he's at neutral for me (1 good season 1 bad season) now if we go on a rather bad run I'll accept it would be time to go but wouldn't be overly enthusiastic about it. Not a popular opinion I know but hey thats life. As for the other point, obviously being at a large distance I wouldn't pretend to ever have as much investment as anyone living in or from Newcastle itself but ultimately I'm not going to judge any manager on one fixture.

like Whelan would allow Ashley to nab his manager he hates him

weird seeing Harper playing for another club
-
he'll be there on saturday i'd say.

I can see the ban only lasting for a few games at most, then things will revert to type with the difference being the journos will now tread even lighter. probably, the locals need the clubs more than the clubs need them.

The only thing he has no say in is the transfers, the rest of the managers job is his. transfers is a fairly important part of any managers job. So is tactics tbh. and our tactics are being influenced by the transfer policy. I'm going to keep banging the drum but we need real width above everything else because we have no one who will go wide to stretch teams except Sammy who's not ready. This lack of width makes us painfully predictable as we'll always try to come through the middle.

Is it because of the Wonga thing and he is making a protest? Whatever is up it can't continue. He wasn't much better last season when Wonga wasn't even announced. Maybe, just maybe, he's just not very good? looking more and more like that first 6 months was a freakish run of form that he'll never reproduce

I don't think so. I think the press will turn on him and now start saying how the fans see games and reflect true reviews on Pardew instead of having their polls that show the majority of fans want Ashley and Pardew. Despite this I don't think Ashley will give a shit and things will continue as they are, just the fact that he no longer has the support of the local media, something which he clearly doesn't give two shits about in anyway. Come to think of it aren't the Daily Mail, NOTW (News international) all still banned from the club? Pretty soon the only news outlets reporting from SJP will be NUFCTV and Sports Direct news. Ashley may be thick-skinned but everyone has their limits. Also, if he starts getting a lot of negative press in relation to NUFC, the club's advertising value for Sports Direct will begin to contract, hopefully to the point where it's no longer worth it. there will never be that much negative press at least not in the outlets that matter which aren't the locals if you want to affect anything to do with Sports Direct (which has dealt with worse press than a few reporters now allowed to ask questions)

The manager has the most important job at the club. not according to Ashley since he has next to no input on pretty much anything.
-
everyone else does it at one point or another

my point is, sacking Pardew won't change one bit the underlying issues at the club which all can be traced back to Mike Ashley. Sacking him would simply be shifting deck chairs on the titanic. How could you know this? So there isn't even a chance that a better manager could come in and get us playing some nice football and winning games? Mike Ashley

The Titanic did sink tho. and while Ashley is controlling things it will inevitably happen, we're standing still at best which is akin to going backwards in the top flight.

Edited there for you. he's not the problem simply another symptom. The problem is Ashley and a moronic transfer policy and the thinking that just buying players from one sub-par league is a good idea. Plenty of very good players have come from the French league. yes but that doesn't mean you just do all your transfer business there. Other leagues exist, the lower leagues exist. Plenty of very good players have come from there too. Not this again, We've bought from other leagues. The players we've brought from France aren't second rate donkeys. Time to accept that Pardew is out of his depth managing this style of player as he was at West Ham when he benched Tevez and Mascherano. love how the players have become sacred cows who you never ever criticize or think they maybe just maybe are not that good. Fact is had Williamson did what MYM did vs Everton first half or last week vs Liverpool he would be hung out to dry by everyone on here, same for Steven Taylor, see also if Simpson had played as badly as Debuchy certainly has. Why can Cisse do absolutely nothing outside the box? Why does Sissoko go missing all the bloody time. What the hell does Gouffran offer? Why is Colo still the captain after wanting to fuck off? Sell them all and get a new lot then, would that be your solution? start by sorting out the transfer policy. Fact is the manager having 0 input in signings- and as such the guys he's got to fit in a system together- isn't working all that well. The squads completely imbalanced and lacking any kind of actual width which makes us very predictable. We need to scout and sign players not just in france but in all the major European leagues and the English leagues. And give them to Alan Pardew? he is the manager and if you think Ashley would get anyone better (ie more expensive) then good luck to you.

Players are anything but sacred cows mate and they get plenty of stick. But imagine how you'd feel working under a manager who is totally inept and constantly talks your chances down whilst talking the opponents up. As a professional player with no ties to the club, why the fuck would you want to stay? the same reason they came £££
