    On this day...

As someone too young to remember this. It still baffles me how much we cocked this up. So sad. Funny mind as 80 points to win the title really isn’t that impressive these days is it? I think the following year Man U won it on 75?

    Nick Pope

Pope clearly has the better defence in front of him and has only been here half a season. But he does command his box so much better and his shot stopping seems just as good as Given’s. Given did have a tendency to struggle due to his height imo. He was pretty short for a goalkeeper. However, Given had a dreadful defence in front of him, even when we were good Bernard O’Brien/Dabizas/Cauldwell/Woodgate/Bramble/Boumsong Griffin/Hughes My gut says Pope is a better keeper. But like others have said it might take another 18 months for it to be unequivocal.

I think it’s fair to say we’ve been figured out with our 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation. The 20 minutes against Fulham with the two of them was great. I don’t see why we can’t try that - it doesn’t have to be one or the other.
  4. Buzzing you got to meet him! I was no help at all Hope you had the best day

When needed to make a save. He does!
  6. Howe does seem far too overly cautious with subs. That’s my only (tiny) gripe with him on a weekly basis.
  7. Would like to see Isaak and Wilson up top together for the second half.
  8. Liverpool out the blocks this half

It really depends on how much we’d pay. If it was anywhere near the £50-£60m being quoted last year. Nope! If it was £10-£20m I could see Howe turning him into a cracking player tbf. If the club think he’s a good purchase, I’m all for it tbh. Wood has been the only poor signing - and on paper he was a must have signing last January.
  10. Should clear up £100k a week from the books…

Nice post. Ahhh ceefax page 324. I'm 10 years younger than you, but I used to love ceefax in the SBR era. I remember watching ceefax when we beat Leeds away 4-3 in December 2001 and going absolutely nuts.
  16. Amazing to rattle them off
