To be honest the foreigners you've signed have (for the most part) been mediocre and overpriced. The s*** you have bought off Spain is stuff of jokes down there. It would be different if you bought them at bargain prices, but you paid big coin for players that -in the best case- were merely seen as decent in this league, and a club aiming for CL football should have done better.

Injuries killed his career. Let's see how he manages there. In his prime he was certainly better than any other leftback that has worn the Spain shirt after him, and 29 is still a good age for a leftback.

Last minute movements in Spain: Koné (Sevilla) to Hannover on loan Asier del Horno (Valencia) to Valladolid on loan Edmílson (Palmeiras) to Zaragoza on loan Alustiza (Chacarita) and Vigneri (Puebla) to Xerez on loan Eguren (Villarreal) to Lazio Smiljanic (Espanyol) to Sporting Gijón on loan Keko (Atlético) to Valladolid on loan Ilan (St Etienne) to Racing Santander rumour is that ManCity will try to swoop again for Fernando Gago.

He looks a bit of a tit on that photo. Hope he pans off for you, absolutely never heard of him before. Great pun potential tough, that's always a bonus. -
Patrick Van Aanholt from Chelsea signs on one-month loan

I simply *loved* when Christian Bale pretty much admitted he based his portrayal of Bateman on Tom Cruise You need to sign a tough-tackling yank player and nickname him Patrick Bateman. -

Incidentally, American Psycho fans. Are you aware of this? http://www.briankotek.com/psycho/movie/am2000.cfm Was part of the marketing campaign of the movie, a set of emails by Patrick Bateman that show how his life ended up after the movie, in the year 2000. They were not written by Easton Ellis, but supervised and approved by him, so you can consider them "canon". -

To be honest I only remembered the first three Phil Collins was in Genesis at the time of the novel/film. -

I think we need a showdown here. What are Bateman's favorite music artists? -
Daniel Cousin, fuck off

I was bored, and gathered some stats: La Liga top shooters: (Shots/Minutes per shot/Conversion rate - rounded to nearest 0,5%) 1) David Villa - VAL - 79 (one every 22,32m) - 18% 2) Cristiano Ronaldo - RMA - 78 (1/12,63m) - 11'5% 3) Alfaro - TEN - 74 (1/21,88m) - 4% (poor sod) 4) Forlán - ATM - 72 (1/23,98m) - 11% 5) Messi - FCB - 67 (1/20,60m) - 22'5% 6) Nino - TEN - 66 (1/28,65m) - 7'5% (Tenerife needs better strikers) 7) Soldado - GET - 62 (1/26,58m) - 16% 8) Ibrahimovic - FCB - 59 (1/23,08m) - 18'5% 9) Rossi - VLL - 53 (1/26,98) - 9% 10) Negredo - SEV - 51 (1/25,93) - 8% (doesn't include today's brace which will bump him up) Comments: 1) Cronaldo does really hoard Real's attacking play, only guy in the top 10 and he's missed quite a few games this season. 2) Messi 3) No wonder Tenerife is going to get relegated

How would you describe Negredo in terms of a striker. He seems very much all round, just a good finisher and target man. Was he as much of a focal point for Almeria as it seemed? Yes he was. Almería are really feeling his absence this season. As a striker, he is a classic big strong back-to-goal striker. His finishing isn't actually that good as his goalscoring records suggest (his lobbed ball today was a beaut, though), he is just great at managing chances for himself and latching onto balls inside the box.
-
FT 2-1 to Sevilla with a Negredo brace. His second was a beaut.
-
Incidentally I just went to the superlig site and checked Vassell's stats... 3 goals in 14
-
He said he sees it as a stepping stone to one of the "four big" leagues in Europe. i.e. Prem, La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A. Poor chap... it's a retirement league more like. Can't believe Sapara didn't end up playing somewhere in Germany though.
-
And Atlético lose (yet again), onwards to Sevilla-Valencia.
-
Villarreal just sacked Valverde following the 0-2 defeat against Osasuna. No word on the substitute yet.
-
Javi López nets the second for Málaga 0-2.
-
Agüero coming on. And Cronaldo's exit has really helped Rooney coming into his own. He has become the focal point of ManU's attack and indeed he has risen to the challenge.

I like the signing. We have absolutely no one upfront that has a brain. We have Robbie Keane that thinks in his deluded mind can play the deep lying role effectively (well in reality he's total dog s*** playing that role). Gudjohnsen gives us an option we simply don't have. You lot played him on the tip of the 3 man midfield didn't you? Lately yes, his most successful times (imho) were on the front three, swapping with Eto'o as striker. That's good to hear. How do you think he'll do? do you think he can form a good partnership with Defoe (or any of our strikers for that matter)? He seemed to lose a lot of his mobility in the past years, and I'm not sure he's fit to play as a forward because of that. Might be a motivation issue, mind. His best attributes were exquisite handling of the ball, his first touch and ball controll in tight spaces was fantastic. He was great drifting into the box coming from the wing or as attacking midfielder. His finishing, however, wasn't all *that*. If you can work out his motivation (that's what seemed to hold him back lately), I guess he will work well for you. He scored one of the best goals by a Barça player of the last years in his league debut. Amazing how he didn't let that ball touch the ground as he dribbled past Celta's CB.
-
Right now? No. They have some bullets on the bench, though: Agüero, Reyes...

KD, now that you are around, what's your opinion on the signing of Gudjohnsen? I actually grew to like the lad despite him not being as succesful as we hoped.

John Terry (England Captain!) has been 'playing away from home'
Village Idiot replied to Ketsbaia's topic in Football
Capello is pretty anal about off-the-field antics turning his players' heads. He famously dropped and vowed to never play Beckham because of all the gossipy crap he got involved in while in Spain (he ended up backtracking on that, though). -
Funniest thing is, they are just a couple games away of probably securing an Europa League spot next season (through the Cup).
