Why are we saying he doesn't do the basics on the pitch? He looked absolutely fine most of the time, he just wasn't quick and struggled to beat his man consistently enough, given that he only started 4 games and then was thrown on for the final 20 seconds every game in between that I think it's fair to say he might have gotten a bit better. Along with Mbiwa he's the worst we've handled a player.

We've struggled to close the gap between our Midfield and attack this season though, I don't think Perez ahead of Mitrovic really solves it, maybe even makes it worse. Fuck knows, I wouldn't mind seeing it actually, I just don't think it would work. He's far better in front of goal at the minute.

That's partly Mitrovic's fault though (he's only 21 and been here 6 months, we need to give him time), there's a reason Ba, Cisse and Remy have all banged goals in for us when we've been equally as wank in the final 3rd.

Would be all over this signing if it was a case of shipping deadweight like Obertan, Gouffran, Taylor, Colback etc and replacing them with a proper group of players. In isolation it doesn't seems bad at all. He just doesn't do anything to solve our main issue of having a really imbalanced squad padded out with poor to below average players. Same with Gomis - aye, bring him in if we're also signing another proper striker or 2 and getting rid of Riviere.

You've literally just proved my point Gomis has scored a steady amount of goals in this division, why should we turn our noses up at him when our own strikers can't manage that? As for Lacazette, the same was said about Thauvin was it not? "He doesn't want to join, we're wasting our time with fake bids" etc etc. Gomis started off well, he's looked a bit of a donkey for the last couple of months. Granted, he's not going to score 15-20 a season, but he's got the same amount of league goals (5) as our highest scoring striker this season... Eh, isn't the point that we need better? I think Mitrovic and Ayoze will eventually be excellent players for us, would anyone want rid of them now? I wouldn't. My point is, Gomis has scored as many goals as Ayoze. Of course we want better but to turn your nose up at the likes of Gomis, no wonder our fan base is often seen as delusional. What? He'll have been training and has actually been playing regular football as opposed to just sitting on the bench. We see plenty of players move from the U-21s or the stiffs straight into the 1st team and be absolutely fine. They don't just play on swings 'n that.

He's been playing in the U-21s, no reason he shouldn't be match fit and ready to go like.

Because he's English? Thauvin came in for big dollar and has barely seen the pitch. McClaren wants him (I imagine), he clearly didn't want Thauvin and just refused to play him. It happened with Obertan (French) although he was so shit that even Pardew had to bite the bullet.
