Understand your point, would have liked that myself. Cabaye already tried to push a move through once for himself though, apparently made it clear again he didn't want to be here. You're only delaying the inevitable. Least the team can move on without him and have a few months to adapt without him in the side. And also the possibility of a new signing taking his role.

My problem is obviously with the club selling Cabaye half way through the season, like I said in a completely unambiguous way They don't have to sell him because a £20m bid comes in you know, they can turn it down. Personally i don't mind that but i'd be wanting the player to sign a new contract and commit. What's the point in keeping him against his will for an extra few months when really we've only got an outside shot at Europe then be losing millions in the summer for not cashing in? Wouldn't make sense. Cabaye wanted to leave, PSG stumped up a fair offer. Reel the money in then look elsewhere to invest it, be it now or in the summer. It’s not like last Jan when we were in a desperate position to sign players so paid little extra on top to get them early. We can bide our time for the summer. Not so much throwing matches but selling our best player and the severe lack of incoming transfers do suggest they don't want to finish top 6. Add to that a lot of the quotes attached to Pardew which belittle the Europa League and it does appear that they would rather not have the hassle. They've already accepted they aren't too arsed about Cup competitions so why would they want to qualify for another. I think you may be being naive. Pardew wants to finsih as high up the league table as possible, to think otherwise is mental. The players themselves will be in the same boat trying to push for it as well, precisley why we are only 7 points of a champions league spot. Not that i think we are capable of getting in that position but at least they are keeping themselves in touch with the top 6 teams and not just folding away like other clubs have.

Sure it was only a couple of year ago they were protesting against Kenwright because of the financial dire they had found themselves in? I think when your bench consists of players like Mbiwa Haidara Marveaux Ben Arfa Cisse, you can say you have a very good squad. You can say Liverpool's is better than ours, of course it is, but they've spent shit loads of money to get it. We've built it up slowly and relativley cheaply. Not went wild like they did.

Who should we do business like then Beren? I personally think on the transfer side of things Ashley almost has it down to a tee. I think he buys well and sells well but often falls short in times like these when a replacement might cost a bit over the odds on what you'd like to pay but he won't do it because we aren't in trouble and we aren't pushing for champions league spot. Or if we need to push on, he lacks that bit more desire on the incoming side of things. Overall I think he’s built a very good squad, better than the majority of sides in the league on a tight budget. People say we are a selling club and yes we are but who isn't? Most teams have to sell their best players at a certain point when a top club comes calling. We can't be that bad when we say Arsenal will sign Krul every window, Ben Arfa will join Liverpool, Santon will go to AC Milan etc. It's not like we offering Krul away for 8 million each window and so on. Champions League clubs will look to lure your players away and until you're in a position to stop that you an only delay the inevitable before having to give in to the players demands and accept the fee.

Don't get why you would cancel after one player leaving in Jan. Chances are we will do most of our recruiting and re-building in the summer. We had an outside chance of Europe this season but now that seems all but gone especially if we don't get a replacement but next season is where our true test will lie with lots of the players moving on.

Just wish we would buy Holtby and Hughes with that money and that would cover the majority of transfer fees and agent fees. He has the vision for the role and accuaracy of passing/shooting but he struggles to get himself in the game enough. If you compare him with other number 10's who are a class act it's plain to see cabaye falls short. In a deeper role, he has the attributes to compete with the best.

The new role was the one you should have given him in the first place you incompetent pleb. Harsh on Skirge. even more so when for me he should be deeper in CM and not a number 10 role. I agree, think this new position is a bit forced rather than where Cabaye should really be playing.

I think Santon is most definitley still our best LB but Haidara putting pressure on him for his spot can only be a good thing. If Santon remains in poor form and Haidara takes advantage in a couple of his cameos. he'd deserve a start. Santon hasn't improved as much as i thought he might but he's still young with plenty of promise.
