Then we got good crowds at a lower league, came back on the first attempt, sold a player for 35m, and the PL got a lucrative tv deal. He realised all that and that he wields all the power with fans helpless against him. We're getting some profits in, he's not losing money (even harder to do so with the increased tv revenue), gets free advertising in SJP and on screens worldwide and barring a catastrophic relegation to league 1 he won't suffer a loss on his investment. We missed the window where he was desperate to sell up. Doubt Ashley will ever do so now unless an Arab with oil money comes in.

Don't think he will actually meet up with the fans. Even if he does, it will be with a select group of pro-Ashley/Kinnear supporters. Walk into a meeting filled with your average fans and he'll get fecking lynched. Even he can't be that deluded to not heed probable advice from the club management.

An increase of some £20m from the bottom club to some £40m for the league winners by some estimates. Enough to cover an empty stadium btw. The money we've just received/will soon receive is the last payment of the previous deal AFAIK (?). I think this coming season is when the new deal kicks in so we'd get the increased payment next summer. Starts from the new season, yup. Didn't stop clubs from spending ahead to consolidate their lucrative PL status.

Don't think we will spend much this summer. Decent money on a striker and a cheap backup for a CH plus some promising youngsters and that's it. If we get a good striker and a proper winger I'll be happy regardless of how much we spend. I'm just worried any shift in transfer policy may be to our detriment when there are better options around.

It wouldn't have changed anything even if we agreed a fee. He was close to committing but chose to go to Southampton for a number of reasons. Whether we could have been in 'earlier', no one will ever know.
