Source: https://theathletic.com/1963663/2020/07/30/newcastle-united-takeover-withdraw-staveley-ashley-pif-premier-league/ So at that point it appears Bein really got their hooks into the PL somehow. Another issue, and one I want to shift the focus to briefly, is the supposed opposition from other premier league clubs. The only teams I saw specifically mentioned were Tottenham and Liverpool, but let's assume the entire top 6 had reservations along with others. On what grounds would they be objecting? This is a question I can't find an answer to that sounds like anything other than sour grapes. Well you'd think that most people would object to Saudi's owning a club in the PL based on moral issues . It "shouldn't" have any standing in the PL tests, but you can see why the majority of people/clubs would object to it. It's like why Daniel Bryan refuses to be part of the WWE events in Saudi Is that not referring to the premier league clubs objecting? In which case it's absolutely nothing to do with human rights and 100% due to sour grapes/not wanting to upset the status quo.

That's fucking lifting that PL complaining about a journalist reporting something....but completely ignoring the issue that he was referring to. I don't see it happening but if love to see them get took to the fuckin cleaners. It seems so obviously corrupt. It's not really a surprise but it seems so blatant right now. I'm definitely in the negative camp, there's no way this is resolved in our favour.

So how do they get out of this? Do nothing? Ain't going to work now, they have to make a decision and take a side. I'm not sure they do. It's just going to be ignored as they have down for 4 month until it goes away. That isn't happening now. It was, but the buyers blew them out of the water and exposed that tactic. Pretty much every outside body has said they need to explain themselves or come up with a decision, including the government. They’re not accountable to the government though. You’re still clutching at straws here. This. It doesn't matter who says what. If and when they do actually say something it'll be them telling us it's a confidential process, they stand by it and it wasn't succesful/buyers walked away. They don't have to do anything, they don't have to be transparent about their process regardless who tells them to. If they don't want to let them in, it's unfortunately up to them.

It won't make a difference to the PL's stance as admirable as it has been from everyone. They've already made their mind up and it's not going to change. So what if Newcastle and its football fans are unhappy? As long as Liverpool, spurs, qataris and the rest don't get upset. It's going to be ignored until it goes away and the likes of sky etc will allow it to disappear.

Problem there is that you can't make a deal contingent on something not legal. Which is why Staveley's quotes can't be taken at face value. What were the exact quotes, anyway? EDIT "Country" in that context clearly means government, and is confirmed in the second sentence I would just assume the PL aren't actually saying they want them to become director, more that they believe they basically will be directors but the consortium aren't declaring that.....and therein lies the problem. They can't say they are directors, and can't prove that they won't have influence (although they believe they have) and now it's still just the stalemate we've been at for months only now the consortium are sick of it. Really wish I could just keep out of here.
