Same here. A better manager would certainly have got more out of the available players. He's very clueless when out of his comfort zone.

On the very first day of the Premier League, we had the highest attendance even though we were in Division 1 and had finished 5th bottom the previous season.

We kept about 15 clean sheets which was second only to the champions I think. Having such a solid base allowed us to nick a goal or 2 then see out the game which we're trying to do this year but can't because the defence is so poor.

Our great form last year was built almost entirely on a rock solid defence. That's what's missing from this season, not who plays where up front. Switching the 2 of them won't help the defence keep clean sheets nor will it add creativity or goals from the midfielders. It's a side issue and not our biggest problem at present.

It's not the only tactic but has looked our best bet. Also, Ba really isn't rendered useless as a wide forward, considering he's played the majority of his senior career there and scored plenty. It's not like he didn't have chances there last year either, he just wasn't putting them in. I don't remember Ba being anything special out wide personally and the chances he was missing are the same chances Cisse is missing this season. The main fact is it's almost a year since we signed Cisse and while we've played them both together on nearly ever occasion, they still look like strangers.

Cheers Shola! Don't waste it all at once, mate. Because of the Bayern -1 bet, I was at a little profit for December even before the day started. So, sort of counted the 400€ as a win, and not the 200€. Don't care that much about the 150€ in the end this time because of that. But good to see you're back tracking my bets. Laughing at yourself once in a while might actually help you.

i agree to a point, however you'd think if you try something and it doesn't work you'd then revert to what you know does work to steady things before trying something else. It only worked for a few games and swiftly ended with a 4-0 hammering at Wigan. That game in particular has definitely poisoned Pardew against attacking football/tactics ever since imo and it's killing us. We didn't play 433 at Wigan. He changed it from that when we were getting battered and completely overran in every area then went back to it in the second half.

Still can't believe that 4-3-3 is seen as our only hope. A tactic where one of our lethal strikers is rendered useless is fawned upon because we played well for a few games last year. Other tactics are available and any half decent manager would try some other ideas to get these 2 going simultaneously.

He was awful today. Spilled almost everything and kicked half his clearances out of play. I was very gutted we didn't test him more.

I wouldn't say we fluked it, we did dominate. I only remember 1 good shot all game and that was the goal which, despite said domination, still felt completely out of the blue.

I'd feel so guilty if I put you on ignore. Likewise mate, I've been genuinely surprised a couple of times though. We got an absolutely vital win today when we really needed it, and when it looked at times we wouldn't manage it. I'd like to think I'm not a total mug, but I honestly didn't expect to find such negative feeling tonight. We had 1 good shot on target against as bad a team as I can remember us playing at SJP and probably the worst goalkeeper too. It was the absolute definition of papering over the cracks.

Even though we won, that game has probably raised more questions of Pardew than it's answered.

He did everything right. That chasing back before the goal was fantastic.

Don't know if it's true or not but somebody said Pardew was telling Ba to keep taking them.
