He was underrated under Rafa too. the national press never pay any close attention to our teams at all, it sometimes feels like the further north you go the less time anyone spends watching. I remember when Sheffield United got absolutely lauded for playing a 3 at the back with two ball playing CBs basically stepping into midfield as if it was this super tactical genius move, and all I could think of was Rafa dropping Shelvey so a back 3 of Lejeune, Lascelles (who was mainly there to sweep up behind) and Schar stepped forward and provided a lot of the midfield creativity. Don't think I ever saw anyone give any credit to Lejeune or Schar, or indeed any comment on this system being at all strange. Willing to bet none of them noticed that Rafa wasn't playing his old 4-2-3-1 formation.
  3. Little bit of me (ok a large part of me) is welcome to being a normal fan of a normal football club, most are clownshows. In some ways I'd rather that than be a fan of a boringly run club like Crystal Palace, absolutely no ambition to do anything but suck up the premier league money no threat of a cup no threat of finishing top half of the league. At least Man U fans have the soap opera of it all. I have a little overall sympathy in terms of football being run by money men in general but really no genuine sympathy for man u fans. Fans are awful, heard on podcast about Man City fans tweeting about DONT WORRY THE CLUB WILL RISE AGAIN. Absolutely insufferable, and I dread our fans being like that after losing a couple of games
  4. I don't get Man U at all still. They're not intense in pressing, but they aren't technical enough to control the game or creative enough to make lots of goal attempts and they're not compact enough to be a counter attacking team. They are the most 'generic football team playing generic football' of all and sometimes have enough quality for that to be enough but I don't get what they are trying for?
  5. Still kinda in shock, it's not like I didn't rate him before he signed, I did, thought he was a very good right back even, but he's the best right back i've ever watched play for us by a distance, and what he brings to the team, and he's so fucking consistent. Ridiculous.
  6. I blame steve bruce for no particular reason
  7. I mean i think quite sensibly on redcafe they were talking about willingness to be coached, their players come thinking they are superstars and nothing to learn. having said that, that is why the big coaches get paid the big bucks surely.
  8. It's not that I'm surprised he's doing well, I always rated him a bit more than some I felt but it's the way he's seamlessly slot in. Sometimes Managers will praise players left on bench or training ground for their behind the scenes training out of politeness but you would't guess he'd played so little for the team.
  9. Went to look at them, saw "Schar couldn't even get a game under Bruce now look at him" eeerm there is a reason for that nothing to do with Schar or Howe
  10. Hey everyone let's play illness top trumps!
  11. Remember being pelted by coins below them in the leazes after beating them a while ago so quite happy to beat these lot
  12. Portsmouth scoring in last minute of injury time got to really suck for the carlisle away fans about to set off back
  13. Burnley are the platonic ideal of a team that are going to go straight back down despite everyone all season saying how good they look
  14. In fairness he was really bad at bringing Bruce his 11am twix
  15. TAA is only a right back really because he can put in great crosses from that position, otherwise he is pretty poor, albeit his crossing really is that good that it does compensate some of the time. I am not convinced he is a central midfielder either, if anything he is a really old fashioned wide right winger for me but that position is just dead

I mean, no-one forced you to post
  17. I don't get this. Our salaries are modest compared to the champions league teams we are competing against. I get how if not in sync with rest of europe this could be harmful but look this is how man u and chelsea buy their way back to the top 4 after mismanagement, get the players with ludicrous wages. We are competing at the top through sensible transfers and good management not offering ludicrous wages. I don't know why we would be slamming wage cap proposals, we can be fuckign smarter than Man U, Chelsea etc, and any hit on the ability of people to outbid us for players through silly wages can only help. It won't happen, especially with the Saudi league poaching. One day we will be offering highest wages too but tbh, I am fearing that day. Jadon Sancho's wages dwarf Miggy's wages. Who is better off is all I will say.

    Joelinton

Honestly, if we don't win anything during his stay with club (I'm hopeful we will) still want the lad to go down in club history as an absolute beast for us. Adore him, should never be forgotten.
  19. It's sort of interesting, although it's kinda not new, in ways it's close to the actual old Total Football idea of all players able to play all positions, however that evolved away more to have fluidity but still you know a CB is a CB. Keegan loved to turn his CBs into defensive players mind, albeit that was more to make things more attacking one feels. We shall see if it is the next big thing but instituting it will be difficult with international side particularly one with lots of high profile players all over the world, one thing to do it with a smaller country where you can get the players together more young and pick from a league more with similar styles. I just watched some explanations of it and it ends up looking, oh that looks like all the players going to one side of the pitch, all you need is someone good at distributing and you can bypass most the team...
