The big problem with possession football is it's kinda easy to defend, you need to make extra allowances, and you can't get away with sub par forwards. At City for a long time Pep had Sterling and someone on other side play very wide to stretch play, and they have Sterling at Chelsea for similar but they are never never doing anything particularly threatening. They need to vary it up a bit, need to be less predictable. All that money and they didn't sign a striker but even then, still really rate Sterling and he's done nothing.

Yeah my point being, generally VAR is there for the pedantic enforcement of the actual rules, but by pedantic following of rules a shove in the face is a shove in the face and a red card, and therefore surely it's not a "clear and obvious error" as the rules have been correctly (if extremely harshly applied). It is good common sense has prevailed, but equally VAR is just adding little but another layer of confusion. Equally as much as it was not a violent punch or anything, Ziyech could have no complaints if red stood, you do that, you run the risk of a red Sorry to expand cos i am even confusing myself. This would be working as intended if VAR was meant to be an opportunity for Refs to have a second look at a decision and adjust, but since it's not, the ref isn't meant to be interrupting play to have another look, it's meant to be if a law was incorrectly applied around red cards and goals. I am just amused because of course that isnt the case and the stockley park guys have just said hang on mate that was harsh. I am just amused that we have got to the correct outcome from VAR not working properly somehow, albeit maybe that is how it should work.

Gotta love a game where is it half time +3 minutes and we're in the 52nd min
-
All to say, correct outcome, kinda mad way of getting there
-
Cancelled it for yellow now, right it was a harsh red, but equally by letter of the law it is a red isn't it? It's just not enough actual force so normally would be yellow but dunno if you can overrul as the red card is technically correct so not a clear and obvious error

Did get a red in the end

After defending Potter a bit in other thread Chelsea are really rubbish like, yes you can dominate possession if you don't attack much but it's not like Pep's Barca dominating possession...
-
Having said all that in Potter's defense his love of playing forwards as wing-backs feels flawed. Yes Pep does it too, and yes it doesn't work half the time for Pep either.

Problem is the media is wedded to a sort of hero narrative where a manager is a lone genius who is able to dictate everything at every club. In fact there are a lot of factors at every club that can boost or diminish a manager who isn't actually soley responsible in practice for how a team does. If Chelsea do stick with Potter, which feels less likely every week, maybe they can rebuild their club ethos and structure around him and he can get some of the results that he got for Brighton. Chelsea are clearly a basket case, and famously their dressing room is difficult. I wonder if Boehly is not taking calls from them, under Abramovich if a manager so much as made one of the star players run a bit more defensively he'd get a phone call whinging about it. Equally however adding a bunch of new superstar players on big wages and long contracts does not feel brilliant for dressing room collusion. I have no doubt this Chelsea team will improve drastically but for all the money I see no sign of anything special.

No excuse for sending death threats to someones family like. Honestly these melts should have "I sent someones family a death threat because I wasn't enjoying football" tattooed on their forehead for all to see for all time

So, I am currently in Toon sat in a cafe. I got a big promotion last week at work so thought i would celebrate at short notice, I live down North Yorkshire way and haven't been up in a while, thought I'd see if any old mates about (they weren't lol), went round old haunts (one of which has been ruined by new management I guess booo) and went to the Cluny for a Terry Hall tribute night where all the bands had got Covid, but oh well was fun. The town feels very quiet though, like one big intake of breath. (I am aware probably cos a lot of people aren't here) Everywhere I've gone snippets of conversations about it. Sat in Trent House yesterday guy at next table was discussing his plans on phone, lucky bastard had tickets and was setting off at 5am today. I am driving back down to Teesside shortly to sit cramped up in the living room of friend who nearly 15 years ago dragged me to newcastle matches in the days I was tentatively getting into sport. The only sport tolerated in my house growing up was Tennis, but I was free and at uni and casting about for new connections. I fell in love with the city and part of that seemed to be falling in love with NUFC even though it was already clear to me then it was a shadow of a club. I'll sit with his kids, the oldest is football mad, and he will probably grow up thinking this is normal, ambition, cup finals. Hopefully me and his dad can keep him grounded. The last decade and so have still got me thinking fatalistically. I am still expecting us to roar into a 2-0 lead then lose to a Rashford hat trick. Always assuming the worst. But how magical might it be if I'm dancing round the room in a few hours?

He publically told her to get back with him in the immediate aftermath of the incident
-
Well yes I guess, but my point is more at mad man u fans who want him to stay because he's learned a lesson, I guess our jails would be empty and cost less i guess if criminals could lose a nike deal apologise and that was what repercussions were
-
Meanwhile Man U look twice the team without him in the squad
-
I'm all for people learning and changing but that also has to go hand in hand with actual repercussions. Not just losing nike deals or anything like that. I get that the cps was screwed over by dropping off complaint but i don't know how anyone who listened to that audio couldn't think this man is dangerous and needs to be in jail.

refers to man u as united, get rid
