He's fine as a squad player which is what Rafa see's him as, i'm sure he'll have signed similar players in the past for the sole purpose of cover.

It's more about the way Rafa sets his teams up. He likes to have a fairly solid base then hit teams with pace on the break. Not dissimilar to Leicester last season, so yeah, reckon he'll want a defensive midfielder in there. Think there's a good chance we'll use him in the 10 position, same role Rafa had Sissoko playing. Can still then have Hayden and Shelvey CM (ignoring inevitable Colback) A completely pointless signing if he does considering all the "10s" we have and little to no CMs outside of Shelvey. Not to mention it relegates Perez to the wing or the bench.

I know he's being described as a squad player, but I don't think Rafa would want to spend £5m on anyone unless he saw some potential in there. It's fuck all tbh, doubt it means anything. Every report suggests he's going to be cover for multiple positions and 5m for that type of player is pretty much the norm nowadays.

If we were selling Mbemba the replacement would be of a lot higher profile than Clark tbh. As shown with the likes of Gayle, Ritchie and seemingly Diame replacing Cisse, Townsend and Sissoko. He's clearly being bought as cover, stop worrying over nothing.

He won't play much anyway, quite obvious he's being signed in case of injuries etc. If he's first choice then I'll be p*ssed but I really doubt he's going to be anywhere close. Seriously doubt he'd leave first team football at his boyhood club to come here to sit on the bench. Just based on his Irish performances he's one of those that can look pretty good at times but always has a mistake in him I'd be very, very surprised if he's benching any of what we have let's put it that way.
