An awful player doesn't score 12 goals. I agree tha the wasn't up to his normal standards, but let's be honest, if Willian is your best player during a season and by quite a distance something is wrong with the team. Costa is a very good player, despite being a despicable human being. Wijnaldum scored 11 and most people on here think he isn't all that and that from a midfielder. Not really about how many scored but when he scored them, he was awful last season IMO and his stats ( which are not very good anyway) won't change my view on that. I do accept that there was something wrong with Chelsea however.

Douglas loves him so it's not surprising, but i agree with Triggs he shouldn't even start and i do like him.

Ian that's exactly what he's cut out for. He's far better when the game moves at pace. Is he? Maybe you're right, I just think that's why he disappears out of the game so much. He's a direct player with great close control and dribbling as well great at finding space in the box but not that great of a passer, it helps him when the game is opened up. Defensively it probably doesn't but a good team would hide him as much as possible.

Sturridge on the treatment table and Mane having to play as a striker quite often, would be my guess. Forgot they signed Mane, TBH. I wonder if Ings will get a look in? Been scoring a few in preseason. Origi too.

He was awful last season in all fairness and before Simeone he was a nobody. Was class for half a season at Chelsea and his last season at Atletico mind.

Rafa will want another one in case he's injured and to challenge him and Mbemba for the shirt. Hayden, Mbabu and Dummett are not proper CB's regardless if they can do a job there for a few games. Dummett is tbh, also Hayden is as well from what I have read he's played loads of games there it just so happens he's better in midfield but that doesn't mean he's only a stop gap. I don't think either player could give us what Lascelles did last season in terms of physical dominance. Mbemba looked twice the player once he had a proper imposing centre back next to him. Exactly why I think we should sign one CB.

CM hopefully, we have hardly any creative CMs. Shelvey is probably the best one and that says it all.

But we do though and surely that's the important point. Every season we've had issues with our lack of squad depth. If Dummett has to move into the centre then our backup LB has to slot in on the left (if Dummett is first choice), then if he's f***ed we have to move someone else there (maybe Aarons like last season, f*** knows). Then another goes. We then end up with a makeshift back line and have to stiffen up to accommodate it and stop us from shipping 4 goals a game. Yeah but I'm advocating that we buy another LB for that very reason and we probably need one anyway. I agree with what you're saying, just that we shouldn't have to sign a ridiculous amount of players just because our backroom staff as it attains to fitness are incompetent. Hopefully Rafa is doing his best to sort out those issues.

He'd walk into their team imo. They don't have anyone who is anywhere near the goal threat he is and all their attacking midfielders are just as inconsistent as he is so that can't really be used as an argument against him really.

One CB will be enough imo, everyone is looking at the worst possible outcome but the reality is most teams don't have 4 recognised CBs. I know we usually have shit tonnes of injuries but that isn't normal, most clubs don't have both their first choice defenders out for long term periods at a time. Mbemba, Lascelles, new CB, Dummett (who is more of a CB than a fullback anyway) and who ever else is versatile enough to do a job if necessary is more than enough.

I checked out on both of them mentally when we were relegated, it was obvious on that day that both were leaving. I'm whatever on both of them now for that reason, just get as much as humanly possible for both and move on.

Struggling to understand the seemingly new fascination with getting squad players so we accept less money if i'm honest. Just get as much money as humanly possible and to hell with their cast offs. Then let Rafa reinvest how he see's fit, don't remember talk like this when Carroll or Cabaye were being sold and it's a bit baffling to me.
