Not worthy of a thread - 2018 FIFA World Cup edition
Mole_Toonfan replied to OzzieMandias's topic in Football
I completely agree, mainly because club football is of a much higher level now compared to international football. I mean as i have said before the current world champions are basically Bayern Munich without Lewandowski, Thiago, Vidal, Robben, Alaba, Ribery etc etc. How far would that team get in the CL? probably 2nd round at best.(unless they get an easy draw) I never understood the mindset that you need to win a WC anyway tbh, it's like saying Maradona needed to win the European Cup but does anyone said that? like fuck do they, also if you want to make the argument my case would be that Maradona's club career doesn't come close to Messi and many others. I would say the closest player outside the generation in terms of joint international and club resume would be Cruyff. Lastly this is just a theory but i get the feeling that the reason the World Cup was so revered back then was because people never saw these players outside of that tournament, where as today we get to watch La Liga, Serie A and so on every week. -
Can't be the only one that think there's nothing in this and media just regurgitating old targets?
-
If the bottom 4 or 5 aren't worse than they are currently showing then yeah i think so.

He could be without a club and they still don't have chance.

Various: Mike Ashley in talks with Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan

I don't think anyone is surprised. I think it's more about people being sick of waiting, despite knowing that these things take ages. What are you waiting for though? if it happens then it happens but there's zero point in worrying about it either way. I personally haven't read anything on the takeover for a couple of weeks. -
Probably not but as far as Moyes goes he's done 3 awful jobs in a row since Everton. That's not a coincidence, it's not just Sunderland.
-
The McClaren hire was hottest burning dumpster fire I think I've ever experienced as a sports fan. Take your pick. Neither of those were disasters from day 1. They gradually turned to s***. In fairness I quite liked McClaren at first for some reason, not sure what that says about me though.

Dunno why anyone is surprised, takeovers don't happen overnight. I don't expect any conclusion for months tbh, I was surprised we got as much info as we did already. -

Moyes has been shite for years now tbh, it's not just Sunderland. He did a good job with Everton but that is completely irrelevant to him as a manager in 2017.

Odin is weirder than the norse mythology had me believe. -
With City you would expect it's more about how well they do in the CL now than winning the league, they are so far above everyone else in this country.
-
Funnily enough that very reason can't be used for our Striker. In fairness to Lukaku though at least he has a history of scoring goals
-
Lukaku is struggling for the same reason everyone else is, if the team as a whole is negative what do you expect your striker to do.

Martial, Rashford was on. Aye, sorry, meant Lingard not Rashford. Martian and Rashford are both good players, but Lingard is nowhere near Man U (or England) class, and Fellaini is just a dirty c*** who is only good in the air. I think Fellaini's fair enough even if he's a total shitheel, but agree about Lingaard, absolutely s***. Him and Herrera will score next week now. Can see the point in bringing Fellaini on, but it basically means you're Tony Pulis-ing things up with pumping high balls into the box. Man U should be better than having to resort to that IMO. I think that's Mourinho tbh, he doesn't trust skill and flair as much as the big physical types, and it shows in his teams sooner or later. He's making Man U players look worse than they are, same as he did at Chelsea. Yep, they are way better than they are showing. Convinced a more positive manager would do much better.

Sounds a class game tbh.

Typical.

I wonder what Merson's thoughts on him now are.

I've never really understood the appeal tbh. I used to work with a Blackburn fan who swore he was the best defender that played for them. Considering they won the league with Colin Hendry at the back, that's fairly high praise. In fairness has anyone actually rated him after his first 6 months at Man Utd proved he was fairly s****? Yeah, some Man United fans, some pundits, some in the media, and every Man United and England manager. Fair enough, I've always thought he was fairly crap for a long time now tbh.

0-0 written all over it IMO.
-
It might be just a want thing, but i genuinely feel that Leicester might give them a decent game after the international break. Think they have looked quite good since Puel took over.
-
In terms of that moment in the game sure, but the amount of chances they wasted before that should made it irrelevant. Only reason it was close at that point was because how wasteful City were and not anything Arsenal did.
-
City could have easily scored 5 or 6, the only thing that stopped it happening was City being wasteful not Arsenal putting in a decent performance.
-
As much as the 3rd goal was offside, if i was an Arsenal fan i'll be more angry with Xhaka and Koscielny just standing still and watching it happen. You play to the fucking whistle ffs, a bit of discipline and concentration and that goal doesn't happen.
