Our squad is a lethal combination of square-pegs-in-round-holes, shit players, and chronic underfunding. This predates Jones, and the only of those things he could have improved is the first. Unfortunately he’s just not up for the challenge.

Our players are completely devoid of confidence and Jones isn’t cut out to inspire them. Hope Howe’s up for the challenge. He’s got a helluva lot of work to do.

I respect what he accomplished at Bournemouth and he seems like a smart guy, but I have to say I’m pretty underwhelmed by Howe. The next manager should either be A) someone who can keep us up and/or B) someone we’re willing to be relegated with because we’re investing in his long-term vision. Ideally both! Howe doesn’t immediately check either box for me. More than willing to give him a chance and I hope it works out.

In light of the Emery news, I wonder who in the squad is best positioned to benefit. Seems Emery likes a 4-2-3-1 with two defensive-minded CMs, fullbacks who can push up the pitch, and a keeper who can play it out of the back. Hayden-Willock would be our immediate best CM pairing, imo, with Almiron central behind Wilson. ASM and Joe out wide. Does Lewis get another chance at LB? Hopefully the likes of Shelvey and Ritchie are put out to pasture.

If Smith goes from Villa, Norwich should snatch him up.
