If it's true that Anzhi are going on a firesale, it would behoove us to take a look at some of their players. The obvious candidates of course (Traore, Willian), but they have some other players that could be decent pick-ups. I really like Ahmedov and the Moroccans Boussoufa and Carcela-Gonzalez seem like good players too (despite the latter being sent off against us).

Nah I wasn't referring to you. Your post didn't touch on that, but others' did. I'm still not sure how it's a particularly egregious post to make, especially since it was posted in the Jonas Gutierrez thread. I'll be stunned if he doesn't hit 30 league appearances this season. There's absolutely no reason for him to do so. It's a valid point to make. You'll have to take up your grievances with the other posters bringing-up this subject in the other threads, because I've not been one of them.

This is *so* American. I expect a full sabermetrics report by the morning. Well, it needs to be taken into consideration. Numbers don't lie, the games in which he scored/assisted were games in which Liverpool were able to run up the score and he didn't produce against anyone of note (save Spurs).

How does it feel to know that, regardless of how many players we sign, this guy will still manage to notch 30 league appearances this season?

5 goals, 8 assists in 45 last season (3 and 5 in 29 league games). He can deliver a cross, a trait the vast majority of our players lack. Interesting factoid, Downey notched all 8 league goals/assists in games in which Liverpool outscored their opponents by a combined score of 30-2 (7-0 record, the only goals against coming in the 3-2 home win against Spurs). So he did pick-up his stats in blow out games.
