That was highly enjoyable to watch. So hope we take 2nd from them.

That second goal could end up being crucial for us. Essentially counts double for our GD. Puts us at +23 and Chelsea +19. Wasn't the prettiest of performances in the second half but job done. Would have snapped your hand off pre match for that result. Almost there.

Obviously in terms of the tech it's just moving the line. And it would definitely have an effect on how the game is played. Hard to quantify but VAR probably has already changed how the game is played. Back in the day if a player was a toe ahead then offside probably wouldn't be flagged cos the linesman has to be sure and if not benefit of the doubt is given to the attacker. That's not the case now so it makes it easier for defenders and harder for attackers.
-
Also up for that. The technological version of giving the advantage back to the attacker.

Losing you mean?

That a mansion? Don't get me wrong most of us would love a place that big but that falls a bit short of mansion to me.
-
Am I missing something? Last time I looked at the table we were 3rd.
-
Put 5 more past them 2nd half. At the minute 2 clear of Chelsea with the same GD which is effectively worse so could do with widening the gap.

It feels very un-NUFC like. Was expecting him to be out for a bit longer yet.

And seeing how we're alright with looking at those ones it's not that much of a stretch to go "well actually the ref has given a penalty but there was clearly no contact" and that only takes a few secs so we may as well correct him there. And so on and so on. The semi automated offside thing is alright but it's worlds away from what people would see as it's equivalent in goal line technology. You either commit to re-refereeing games via video replay or you don't. There's no middle ground. It's a fundamental decision on how you want to referee games.

Tindall out imo.

We could be 9 points clear at the top of the league with 2 games to go and expecting us to fuck it somehow is built into a Newcastle fans DNA.

He'll probably just go and twat someone in the first minute to get it out of his system.

Imagine we finish 2nd and all those posts in the Eddie Howe thread existing.

After 5 minutes reviewing it they'd just backed themselves into a corner where they had to give it or they'd look like absolute tits. I can see why some people think it might be a penalty but ultimately when there's a ball there to be legitimately played for there has to be a certain amount of leeway given. It can't just be a case of whoever gets there second is deemed to have committed a foul. Another one that comes up but it never given is when the last defender takes a striker out just as they get a shot away. You could argue that tackle puts them off the shot but we never give these as penalties. Essentially I do think goalies/defenders should get a certain amount of leeway so they can actually do their jobs and the bar for a foul in the box should be higher. If a penalty was given was every instance of technically a foul the game would be shit.

In this hypothetical situation of Villa putting more effort into one game then it makes more sense to do it against City as they're closer in the table.

Decided to go back to the beginning of the thread to see some early views. 54 was the first to comment on Howe directly and finds himself just about on the right side of history

Someone not an arsenal fan?

Nah not logged in. And if I load YouTube up the video doesn't show on my history.
-
The fact I shared it in the first place suggests otherwise Looks nothing like my YouTube home. I played it embedded on the forum. So is it taking the forum's stats into account?

That video doesn't make the conclusion you come up with at all. Even with xG it says "it's far from perfect and hard to calculate compared to other sports". The central premise that there are so many moving parts to football, and loads of permutations of how things will play out is a good one. But it doesn't follow that suddenly all stats are inherently flawed. Just that they're harder to usefully calculate and interpret. In other words you'll need some very skilled people to do so. The thing I like about xG is it brings the concept of variance into the mainstream. People say it's a results based business but this is often taken too far. "Eddie Howe got it spot on today and Newcastle move into the European spots" "Eddie Howe got it totally wrong and Newcastle find themselves in the bottom half of the table" Give us the ability to rewind time and replay a match and those are two perfectly normal headlines you'll see for the exact same setup. In one reality we converted that chance early on. In another we didn't and let the other team into the match. Also apparently YouTube/The Algorithm/Me doesn't like Europe. Bit harsh on Salah too. In fact wtf is going on here

Analogy fail. There's a round on Professional MasterChef where they have to do exactly that.

Superb goal.
-
Their defenders don't look comfortably controlling the ball from the air at all.

Does Palace's keeper never fancy trying to save shots or something?
