Seems a huge strategic error to be banking on Wilson to stay fit for most of the season. I can’t believe our board and Ashworth are that naive.

From the outside looking in, it seemed as through we were incredibly slow moving on from Ekitike. Would Watford have been more receptive to negotiations for Pedro before the season kicked off and losing Dennis? We can’t know for sure, but equally don’t see how it could have helped moving for him relatively late in the window. As much as I have been pleased with the performances and results so far this season, it’s really strange that we’re again in a scenario where Wood is our only fit option for an undetermined period of time.

I suppose my overall point is that I just don’t think we’ll replicate that form with those players for a similar period of time this season.

I get where you’re coming from but if we have a couple injuries which results in Wood starting alongside the likes of Murphy and Fraser, we’re in for a long season I think. The dearth of attacking quality in the squad must be addressed, at least partially in this window.

Think it’s a summer too soon for Madrid to seriously make a move to sign Bruno. As pointed out by others, they still have Modric and Kroos. I think next summer, we will struggle to hang onto him.

Find it strange we would go in after Watford had just agreed to sell their other sellable attacking talent days before. This obviously changes the dynamic of a potential sale and if we’re so stuck on a budget, I have to question the timing from a strategic standpoint.

I understand the rationale around FFP. However, I don’t think the club can extend that argument when targeting a player of Maddison’s quality and profile. £50m seems a fair reflection of his value.

Our lack of squad depth is really illustrated when there’s genuine suggestions for the likes of Almiron, Schar and Botman to play in a central midfield role, due to an injury. We need more quality.
