  1. Opinions based on nothing. The PL aren’t talking about it to anyone. Whatever happens at least they can’t be accused of being unprofessional about it. Do we actually know when the report will be published or is it still a vague “soon”?
  2. This is what I saw too. I actually think there's a lot to be optimistic about. KSA cant just ignore this report and its findings and will need to seek a resolution with Qatar. Qatar too will want reparations and so surely it stands to reason that once that has been resolved the takeover will be free to be pushed through. It would explain why the PL.havent rejected it yet, it seems to me that they're waiting for the report to be released so that that can be resolved which would leave them free to ok the takeover without repercussions from both sides. Thing is though KSA can just ignore this report. They don’t have to come to a resolution with their regional rival/ enemy Qatar if they don’t want to. Am I correct in thinking that BeoutQ was still in operation (officially) when Qatar made the complaint to the WTO? The fact that it’s been all but shut down now must play into the judgement. It would be unprecedented to declare that KSA had a direct hand in building/distributing the platform, and I don’t think they could find any evidence of that anyway. So at worst all they can say is that they took too long in shutting it down. I think the language will be balanced in the report. At the end of the day they want to resolve the dispute. Being overly critical of KSA won’t achieve that. With that in mind I can’t see how the PL can take that as a smoking gun to fail the O&D’s test. Think they’re just waiting for it because that’s what they have to do.
  3. From the start of this thread until now the same comments are just being posted over and over again. The same arguments. Same opinions. There hasn’t been anything newsworthy about it in weeks and yet we’re still somehow posting 15+ pages every day, thank fuck we’ll be able to go back to complaining about how shite of a manager Steve Bruce is soon ? anything to distract from this..
  4. Posted screenshots of the court proceedings on Twitter and being discussed now in court. Judge wants the evidence sent to him.
  5. Operating strictly within the FFP rules is still a million miles ahead of what we’ve been used to under Ashley. It all depends on how much they can increase our revenue by.
  6. It’s what they’ve always done. That’s actually what I’m looking forward to most if this goes through. The potential lack of drama.
  7. Money talks but Qatar have arguably more. Certainly they are capable to offer more to the PL. According to a colleague, you can watch BeIN legally from KSA through their app or other 3rd party apps. Apparently loads of people watch it this way. Last year, I spent few days in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain - they are also part of the blockade - but BeIN's channels (and Al-Jazeera) were widely available in hotels and bars and it certainly wasn't beoutQ signal Just interested, how do Qatar have arguably more financial power when Saudi Arabia's economy appears to be roughly three to four times larger by every measure? They have a much higher gdp but this is based purely on a much lower population. Overall less than 3 million I think, about 2 million of those are expats. But saying that they export more oil than any other nation in the Middle East. Saudi have mountains of cash reserves and gold and everything else you could think of but they also have high unemployment. They desperately need to diversify and modernise, something they are miles behind Qatar with. In terms of international influence, it might be easy to concede that Qatar have more but Saudi are the only nation from that region to be part of the G20.

He’ll be playing for a move either way the takeover goes
  9. He might be though, he, you or I don't know that Yep absolutely, it’s all guesswork. Including the press, especially the press. I just ignore all these “project fear” pieces for the most part now. It’s 99% the same story with a different sensationalist headline designed to get clicks and upset people. Fuck them, I’m not biting. If I did I’d be stressing that this takeover would collapse every night, and then somehow find it still ongoing the next day. Rinse and repeat. It’s been almost 9 weeks since the documents were sent in. Not ideal but not insane either given everything else that’s been going on. Everyone is coming from a point where they assume work on this has been happening the whole time, we might only be 3-4 weeks into the process in relation to resources available if there was no pandemic. Again, that’s just a thought and am not basing it on anything other than a guess.
  10. Why did they push out positive messages over a month ago? It wasn't even close to happening. Think most of the responsibility is with the press here, including Caulkin. Leaks about this have been minimal, in fact, if it weren’t for someone giving info to the wsj, we might not have known about this at all. It’s been fairly watertight ever since, on both sides.
  11. Honestly think there’s room for both. It’s the same people who are basically just not paying for it at the moment
  12. Non takeover related post (sort of) but for any of you who have used a Kodi app or an IPTV service, you’ll see that pretty much every single game is televised now. In the states they pretty much get their pick of the live games every week. Just go to the channel showing your team. I’m almost certain if they did this in the UK, people wouldn’t mind paying a season ticket fee, say £100 or whatever, I’d be happy to pay that if I knew I could watch Newcastle when I wanted and not have to worry about a stream that cuts out etc. Between BT and Sky and whoever I’m sure they could figure out how to do it. Currently we’re paying more for less if you go with Virgin Media or Sky. I’m not saying it’s right but there’s a reason streaming took off. You wouldn’t get to see your team play on tv if you didn’t avail of something dodgy. Or the PL could go it alone and make every game available as a subscription and just broadcast through an app, like Disney or Netflix, they’d make more revenue from people signing up around the world and they’d stamp out piracy pretty much.
  13. I don’t think this was a vanity project as much as it was a means to get at Qatar from another angle. Money is no object here. They have seen through almost 3 years of a blockade. They are not going to back down because the PL ask nicely. All the letters sent, the bad noise from BeIn, the Qatar funded WTO report.. it will have focussed them on their goal. We are totally irrelevant in this. They could have chosen any club. And any success will surely be enjoyed by them but the short term goals are to put a stop to the dominance of PSG in the market. The minute players know they can get similar deals not in the French league, PSG will find it very difficult to be signing the likes of Neymar and Mbappe in a few years from now.
  14. Bloody hell, what a s***-bag What an absolute shitbag move. Fully intended.
  15. I think Barclays will settle for a lesser amount if it isn’t shot down at the first hurdle. (which is what they are hoping for by contesting it)
  16. I’m fairly sure BeIn let it be known that they would be seeking some sort of compensation if the deal goes through, possibly withholding future payments (if any) Richard Masters has probably been already assured that SA will take up the slack if this were to happen and would be acquiring the rights next time around. If BeIn had to let go of a hundred staff over the decline in revenue relating to BeoutQ, they might not be in a position to bid next time anyway.
  17. The number of countries who have murdered journalists is quite short - and the list of those who have dismembered journalists shorter still. Let's not p*ss on our legs and say it's raining. I’d argue that the 2007 video that Wikileaks put out of the Americans killing several journalists and civilians and laughing about it was equally as chilling. The USA and the UK for that matter have far more blood on their hands than Saudi do overall. So let’s not sit up on some moral high horse. I’m not saying we should condone any of it by the way, we shouldn’t, but if you’re going to criticise one nation right now you should also be able to turn that magnifying glass on others too. Are any of those countries buying the club or what has this got to do with anything? I doubt many would want Trump owning us. So does your moral conscience only kick in when it’s related to Newcastle United? I personally don’t care who own the club as long as the right manager is in place and the club is showing ambition. Besides, we don’t get a choice in this.

  19. The whole issue of hidden agendas has been talked through at length at this stage. We know Qatar have one. What I’m questioning is why would you need a London based law firm to handle your correspondence? She could have sent the letter herself. What legal claim against the premier league could be possibly have? Surely that would open up all manner of cans/worms with all of PIF’s investments. Nobody here is questioning her personal motive, she wants Saudi to be accountable. But they won’t be. That’s life. Just like every other country who’s done fucked up shit in the past. It gets left there. Saudi haven’t done anything worse than what most other nations have done historically, they were just stupid enough to get caught in the act where Khashoggi was concerned. Even North Korea did a better job of assassinating that guy in the airport
  20. I was just reading the bbc article about the response to the Khashoggi widow, and it occurred to me, like who is she that she can afford top legal representation based in London? They don’t take on pro bono work from what I can see.
