Sancho is exactly the opposite kind of RW that Howe wants. Not a chance, even if wages weren't an issue.

What happens if they up it again? Like they already have. It was £65M 3 weeks ago, then last week it was £70M and now it's £75M. Nothing stopping Palace from saying, "now it's deadline day, there's and extra £5M added on for our troubles, it's £80M now". Guehi could've done us a real favour by handing in a transfer request but he hasn't. £75M is ridiculous.

I agree with your point regarding holding your nerve and getting the player you want. But Guehi is the player we want and he certainly wouldn't be a makeweight. I'm definitely not saying we pay £75M. But would it have been worth it doing everything possible (pay the £65/£70M they wanted then) to get this done 3 weeks ago before the season started and then there's be none of this issue about their other CBs being injured or them not having time to replace him

Different situations, much more sought after position for one and the fact he was an England regular unlike Guehi. Mount was 23, Geuhi will be 25. Plus Man Utd pay over the odds for every single player they get.

If we miss any opportunity to improve as a squad, we will only find ourselves further behind everyone else. We have been playing catch up for 3 years, we can't afford to slip further behind by once again not making the necessary improvements to the team. Saying "oh we'll sign someone next window" is not a good enough reason/excuse. This was that next window, this was meant to be the transformative window where we'd go that step further. Maybe it still will be, there is time of course, but it doesn't look that way currently.

Probably goes for about half that £70M they would've got now though. Plus it's a risk of disappointing the player in question, he's already had two relatively average performances this season, which could've partly been caused by this saga. Who knows what'll happen this season to affect his price for next summer.

There's definitely money to spend, we wouldn't even have been considering £70M if not. We wouldn't have been able to make that kind of profit up with a Dubravka or Targett sale, just wouldn't have been enough, even with amortisation.

All attention from those in charge can go onto another deal now. Need to move quickly but unfortunately selling clubs now know what our situation is.

I've been all for this transfer since the start, even when it was an apparent £70M last week, I was still for it. But if that new rumour is true then I'm all for leaving it for dead now. Hope Palace gets relegated.

Couple of big deals in the PL starting to filter through now. Wolves sign some South American kid for £20M and Southampton making a really good signing in Ramsdale. Dominoes are falling.

We also heard it was all but done about 2 weeks ago. They all know nothing.
