I think that could well happen anyway, even if we do sign a new RW before the start of the season. Howe rarely throws newbies in from the start immediately.
-
I don't even know where to start with that. It's obviously not true, he's never been worth anywhere near that and I truly don't believe a single word of that tweet.
-
Funny how quick certain people in the media change their minds about Howe now he's linked with the England job. Perhaps because the alternatives of Potter/Carsley aren't very enticing. FWIW I'd go with Carsley.
-
Howe is on £4M (according to reports). So it would be a pay rise, but equally if he makes it through this season with us and does well then a contract extension and pay rise would seem likely.

I get the feeling the Reubens still have an important part to play with their knowledge, perhaps stadium or training ground related. This feels like a big clue that Amanda and Merhdad have done what they came to do, oversee the transition and set the club up ready to move onto the next phase.

Pre-season (2026/27): NUFC to play Everton at Murrayfield on 12/08/26
Mazzy replied to bowlingcrofty's topic in Football
I'd absolutely admire the kid if he did do that but I sincerely hope he will take a week or even two weeks off to rest and unwind before coming back for pre season. He's been playing pretty much non stop for the last two years, he deserves a small amount of time off. -
It would be reasonable if he wasn't 12 months from his contract ending and obviously not signing a new one. Smaller fee (£15M-20M) with clauses based on appearances and maybe league finishing position in the coming season would be okay with me.
-
I think it will all depend on the price. Rumours are Wolves want £60M and that is obviously a crazy amount and IMO isn't worth paying considering the history of injury. £40M though? Would that be worth the obvious risks, maybe it would.
-
£35M/40M would be decent. Thats right in the sweet spot really, especially for his age.

Hung from the Tyne Bridge.

Yeah that's me assuming he was still at Monaco up till today, he left last year it seems. So obviously won't be any conflict there.
-
I had assumed he was still at Monaco. Just seen he left last year so yeah I'm totally wrong with that one.
-
I did think that perhaps it might work the other way round and that because of Mitchell we would now be prohibited by signing any Monaco players. Not sure if that's the case or not but I do know it's happend in the past in these sort of situations.
-
Nice stuff. The under 21's are going to look entirely different this season.
-
In fairness to Luke Edwards I think he did say while back that Mitchell was top of the list. Seems odd that he never really followed up with that info though. Also, not that I think we were in for any of them but you'd imagine that makes any Monaco player totally off limits for us at least for this summer transfer window anyway.
-
I'm happy with Mitchell, seems like the best we could have gotten in reality. I think the whole "project" at Man Utd is going to die a death pretty quick. Especially with Jimmy at the helm and Ten Haag staying on this season.
-
Damn, I absolutely am.

Well considering we were told (admittedly by people who knows fuck all) that it wasn't a swap. So now there's 3 rumours about the price. One is that it's a small fee of around £5M, the other is £12M and now this one is £22M.
-
That wouldn't be a huge amount more in reality, especially if Miggy doesn't leave as he'd likely be the one to bring in the most money. Trippier, Wilson and Dubravka could easily go for less than £30M combined, and that's a decent enough amount but when that means you then have to replace two of players with similar quality it doesn't feel like much. Even when you spread it out over the season for PSR calculations. I don't want to see us go into this season having failed to strengthen in the same areas that needed to be last summer (RW/CB/ST).
-
But they still need to be at a certain standard, and that will probably cost us a the best part of (if not more than) £40M to get two players in those positions. A striker especially, if they are young and have any sort of promise they will be expensive. Perhaps a RB would be cheaper but they need to be of a quality where we'd be happy to see them play all season. We know how easily players get injured for months at a time and Tino isn't immune to that kind of thing.
-
How much in excess though? Because let's be honest, we need to spend more than £100M this summer. Especially if Wilson, Trippier and Almiron leave, obviously they will provide some cash but not THAT much. If we're wanting to be seriously competing then £100M gets you a starting CB and starting RW. Then we'd need another ST and a RB at minimum.
-
I'd be surprised if Forrest fans knew and it wasn't reported by at least one of the hundreds of journalists begging for attention. I'd genuinely be shocked if we'd paid more than £5M for him.
-
If Trippier leaves and we've got Tino starting, having MGW as a RW could actually work pretty well. Tino will keep the width + make runs behind the defence and MGW can combine with him or drift into the centre/box. Personally though I do think the RW we are after probably hasn't even been mentioned yet and ideally that's the way it should stay until he's in the building.

I've been really up and down about Trent this summer but watching Walker pass backwards and sideward to Stones 99% of the time these last two games has broken me. Keep Walker at the back and let Trent progress the ball down that right side. Walker has stifled Saka just as much as Trippier has done for Foden IMO.
-
Southgate has had (probably) two changes thrust upon him for the Switzerland game. Guehi out and Tripps probably out. I would've put money on the team being the exact same again otherwise. Which is truly ridiculous IMO, Foden has had more than enough time to prove he can do it, he needs to be taken out, same goes for Saka really. Walker should be dropped but unfortunately that would mean changing 3/4 backline so thats not happening. Plus Kane needs a rest but that ain't happening either. A back 3 would be the best option. But then it's a question of who to play as LWB and it means there's no room for Gordon. Pickford Walker - Stones - Konsa Trent - Mainoo - Rice - Gomez Palmer - Bellingham Kane I'd be truly shocked if Southgate does change but I fear something needs to else we will get turned out pretty comfortably.
