You don't think there has been a case as bad as this one? What's so special about it? The reason it's hard to find examples is because it's not really a thing that happens. And if there for some reason is different in our case and a "precedent" is set, we can simply just break it the next time when we are in a much better position. So I really don't think it's a good arguement for not selling him. It's only about pride tbh and not some future practical outcome if you are honest to yourself.
