The problem is that shotstopping is what he used to be excellent at and what made up for his non-ability with the ball at his feet. Maybe the goal isn't something that he "should" save, but it's one that he could save at his best.

Not sure I agree about that. Football is about creating and scoring chances, which City had tons of and we only a few half ones. In the general play we were probably better though.
