My point is that I think Lingard doesn't really give that much of a shit about playing, trying to get back into the England squad, and headlines about him being Angry is total nonsense. Simple and short of it is that if he wanted to play and carry on the momentum in his career he earned at West Ham he would have left Man U in the summer. To me it's damning of him that he was happy to stay.

Can appreciate that, but can imagine he would have been told between the lines he could have gone in the summer if he wanted. No faith in him that he really wants to be playing football tbh... His situation with Man United won't be anything new to him, would have been made clear what it was going to cost him in the summer to get a move out - whether forgoing a chunk of his final year contract, or kicking up a stink and transfer requesting. In a summer where Ronaldo and Sancho are signed, where you're about 6th choice off the bench as is, it was bloody obvious your never playing. If he wanted his move to West Ham badly enough he would have put in transfer request and forced a move out, would have cost him his end. End of the day, Man United aren't going to stand in the way of a 29year that's nowhere near starting XI leaving the club. Opportunity would have been there for him to leave in the summer to West Ham, and probably had offers elsewhere too. Lingard needs to force his way out, but I think he'd prefer to just collect his money and expect a club like us to match his wages to get him out.

Lingard needs to force a move out, but just can't see it. He's not going to kick up a stink, take a hit on whatever he has left on his contract/loyalty bonus just for 6 months of football in a relegation battle. He's been happy enough to sit on his arse for the season so far instead of forcing a move out to actually play - guaranteed a deal involving all parties could have been fixed in the summer to see him move to West Ham. Lingard clearly wanted it, but wanted his money far more. £50M is taking the piss, and all parties must realise that. He was never a £50M player in years ago when he was playing, or even in the summer of the back of his hot streak in the capital, and he wouldn't be a £50M player if he was contracted for years to come. Man United know the market well enough to realise no fucker is going to pay £50M on a player that can't get a game, and has 6 months on a contract - they know he's going to cost them a few million in his remaining contract and loyalty bonus come end of June. Come deadline day, it will come down to whether Lingard wants to take a slice on the money he'll earn doing fuck all for next few months.

A few years ago they were in for him, pretty sure he had a medical and they found he had a dud knee so wanted to re-negotiate the deal with Lyon - so it fell through.

Think Would say they would be bigger club to drop - especially when factoring in recency bias and the sheer amount of money in the PL now, the amount of money they've spent in last few years, and the levels of investment still available through them with Morishiri. They should be nowhere near the bottom of the league with the amount of money they are spending. Can't see Everton getting relegated to be honest. Norwich, Watford, along with us are in far worse states; and I think Brentford and one of Palace/Leeds will get sucked into the bottom before the 30 game mark.

Echoing what others have said, not keen one bit on Dan Burn. Can't remember who I heard talking about him (think Darren Bent), that they played with him at Fulham and was basically a head-the-ball merchant and basically kicked everything into touch. They were really surprised how he's playing at Brighton. He's not a natural ball playing centre back like they had in Ben White, where by he could look comfortable on the ball in whatever system or players surrounding him. Burn looks decent because that's the system he's playing in, and players surrounding him. Pair him alongside Lascelles and next to Dummett, he's our next Mike Williamson kicking everything to the moon.

Not looking forward to having to hear 90mins of Ray Lewington shouting his nut off next time I watch Watford. Haven't missed that one bit.

I guess so, but would also mean a lot of players' careers have really tanked overnight. Even with Lingard having a resurgence towards end of this season and into the next, it's a huge thought to think he can be starting for England. If he can even go that would be a huge achievement. Plenty of players, on form that would be ahead of him even if he was playing like he was at West Ham. Next England game is at end of March. He's barely kicked a ball since end of last season; for him to be in that squad he should be playing now to at least to a standard you're seeing out of someone like Bowen, let alone getting ahead of establish squad players. Far from a given that he'll ever find the form he showed at West Ham again, certainly not straight away hitting the ground running again - that's even if he bothers to get himself out of Man U this week.

No idea exact numbers, just plucked that figure off top of my head tbh. Grew up always thinking a 1 in 2 to be a top level scoring record, so went for something a bit better than that! My point would be if a club competing to win a domestic title each year and Champions Leagues, and spending big money on a striker I think it's fair enough to expect an elite level of scoring. At present £100M odd on Lukaku going back to Chelsea is proving to be a bit of a take - especially when Haaland would be on the market for those sorts of prices, and even money expended on Werner coming from RB with a record of actually scoring a goal or two. Theres a few players in recent years that have fairly incredible scoring rates I'd say. Without looking at numbers and outside of Messi and Ronaldo at Real I can think of.... Obviously Lewandowski and Haaland in Germany - Suarez/Barcelona even last season at Atletico... Ronaldo/Juve, Ibra/PSG, Salah/Liverpool, Aguero/Man City, Lukaku/Inter, PEA/Dortmund, Falcao/Porto-AM-Monaco, Mbappe/PSG, Immobile/Lazio

Wouldn't entirely agree - vast majority of people appreciate the numbers Ronaldo and Messi were hitting in La Liga were unheralded, and likely never to be seen again. I think it's a fair expectation that the top clubs are paying the top money to be getting strikers that are scoring around 2 in 3 at least.
