That’s how amortisation works - and amortisation is also the reason why we don’t have a huge amount of wriggle-room, because there’s c.£200m of book value of previous transfers on the annual books already. It’s high risk to bring players onboard from CL funding unless you’re one of the Big Six, as we won’t be able to replace that income the following year if we don’t qualify again (and of course qualifying again will still likely necessitate sales, given that the burn rate on previous amortised transfers will have been added again).

Would be a cracking signing for me. A GK is an obvious need, despite us being able to fill a five-a-side plus subs with keepers at the moment - Pope is a good PL keeper with flaws, Dubravka had a good spell last season but is getting on and isn’t the equal of Pope.
