  1. Do I really need to explain why I don't agree with football clubs being state run / owned?
  2. I can only speak for myself really. The turnaround has been crackers at how quickly it's happened and hats off for last season really. I don't agree with the whole PIF / State Ownership and the same goes for other clubs involved but it is what it is now.
  3. Nobody knows, seems an odd one as apparently we offered him a new deal which he stalled on, then he got injured so wanted us to honour the original deal and now we are holding off to see if he's going to recover properly. Apparently Stoke have offered him 40K a week. Were bringing in some striker from Benfica, awaiting a work permit, would think he'd be backup to Stewart if he stays.
  4. Aye I think thats the model they are going for but you have to have a balance and know when to retain some of your better players otherwise it's virtually impossible to just keep selling to sides in higher leagues and hope you get promoted. If we lose Clarke this window I can't see how we give it a crack next year, It would be massive losing him and Diallo inside one window.
  5. Only disappointing thing is that you inevitably lose all your good ones if they have a good season or two, Nature of the beast like.
  6. Looks like it's around 1.5 million and incentivised up to 3M, Speakman and Dodds have been chasing him since they came through the door here. It looked nailed on the season before last as he was regularly at the SOL for games when Birmingham weren't playing, He was at Wembley aswell for the L1 final. Looks relatively risk free, Doubt we will make a loss on him even if it doesn't work out as everyone hopes. He's a big lad for 17 mind, looks like he's bigger than Jude from the Madrid conference photos. Much prefer this type of signing than what we would have done in previous years, bringing in someone like Jeff Hendrick on an 8 year contract. Positive moves so far, looks like three in early doors to replace three outgoings, need to get 3 or 4 in now to impact the first team straight away.
  7. He's had a season ticket infront of me for about 15 years man.
  8. Your calculations are well off though as you have calculated 48,000 buying tickets at £45.00 and 48,000 buying them at £10.00 when in reality there will have been 20,000+ plus season tickets each season, There was on year I think were it dipped to 17,000 but even still that completely changes the deficit you have mentioned. It will have been closer to 10-15M by not selling out each week. Fans filling the stadium with full price tickets had very little bearing on his investment, You can also argue that if we built the club properly the fans would have filled the stadium instead of just muddling season to season in the hope something changes with no plan or direction.
  9. 2011 was one of our better windows, which sums it up.
  10. He wasn't obligated too, hence why he didn't. From a business perspective though you would attempt to get the club back to the PL as it's a more sellable asset rather than just letting it rot and falling down the divisions before essentially having to give it away for nowt. Not sure how you can turn his mismanagement onto the fans, strange take.
  11. Agreed but he essentially he turned the tap off as soon as we went down and pocketed all player sales, Giving Grayson absolutely zero money to work with which is why we plundered again. Conversation for another day about Short, his heart was in the right place he just didn't have a clue about building a foundation at the club. It turned sour when we dropped into the Championship purely because he just gave up and watched the club implode.
  12. Forgot about him, He wasn't great mind. Just had a look at some of the players Moyes bought that season.. Anichebe, Pienaar, Lescott, Oviedo, Gibson - What was he expecting with that man
  13. Excellent summary. He never seemed that he wanted to be in the job from the off to be honest, Even his first press conference seemed to be like he was doing us a favour, not that he was trying to get his managerial career back on track after failing at United then Sociedad. We actually played quite well in his first game, We had City away and nearly knicked a point but McNair scored a last minute own goal and we got beat. It was baffling that the very next game following defeat he basically admitted a difficult season and in a relegation battle (even if he thought it, don't mention it a week into the season) His signings were an absolute joke, We had Yann M'Vila begging for us to sign him after an immese season the year before on loan and he opted to ignore that and break our record transfer fee on Didier N'Dong - who this week, has now been relegated in 6 of his last 7 seasons. He signed his chums from Everton who were in it for one last pay day, the likes of Pienaar and Gibson could barely move. Gibson then decided to get pissed up and smash into a lampost which could have killed somebody not far from the city centre. Everything about his reign was horrific, He knew his heart wasn't in it but just bluffed his way from game to game and then finally jacked it in when relegation was confirmed about 6 games from the end of the season. His football was awful (to be fair I don't even think it's great at West Ham but he gets by because they have some decent players) and his attitude was stinking. 35-40M isn't a huge ammount in PL terms, but we've never really spent big so in contrast to others it was a fair whack. He managed to do what the likes of Ricky Sbragia, Steve Bruce, Paolo Di Canio, Martin O'Neill and co couldn't, and that was get us relegated despite being absolutely shite.
  14. Suprised they are going for both him and Rice but I guess if they get them both there midfield and forward line is ridiculous. Jesus Martinelli Odegaard Saka Caciedo Rice
  15. He would be a canny signing for Arsenal I think, He would improve their squad which is what they lack in depth.
  16. He sure contributed towards it, not entirely his fault though, obviously.
  17. Can't disagree, win win for Postecogolu though I think, Could finally be the one to bring some success (maybe a trophy) or he will just get a hefty payoff with reputation still decent as everyone seems to fail under Levy.
  18. Odd one Spurs mind, Postecogolu is the type of manager they probably need but for him to be successful he will need time to get his methods across. It's the polar opposite of the appointments they've made in recent years where they have looked for immediate fixes (Mourinho, Conte) It shows the problem is Levy really, they lack a clear idea of what path they are working towards over the next 3-5 years. He's also going to need about 8 new players, He likes progressive, front foot football which again is the opposite style of the previous managers including Espirito Santo. The likes of Holjberg, Skipp, Winks, Bissouma etc are knackered in his system.
  19. Ah don't get me wrong, every forum has them, It's Newcastle Onlines version of that daft twat Exile.
  20. Over 300 posts in the Sunderland thread (with pretty much every post saying how shit they are) since the start of the season suggests otherwise, marra.
