could really use a 50m pound midfielder rn

It all went downhill when AG got the Pulisic haircut

One of the drawbacks of Kelly is Barnes seems to sit deeper since we don't have a fullback who can step into that midfield role... It's a pick your poison proposition but think Eddie will have no choice but to bring Hall on if we are down at half/60 min
-
Gordon miles off it man
-
Wondering where the extra solidity is with Kelly on that left side that we hear of

Not great

Feeling 3 points here

You've both nailed it. I think we as a fanbase need to stop taking these comments so personally. The lad has been brought in by PIF to make sure we don't have such a debacle in the future, and he's basically said as much. Nowhere did he say the lads brought it weren't mint. We have a high hit rate with transfers, but as we know, there's more to it than bringing in mint players.

Our stated ambitions, from our owners themselves, was to be the best in the world. The best in the world are not shopping their Salahs, their Haalands, their Sakas, at the eleventh hour to be PSR compliant. We were willing to trade Gordon for Joe Gomez - does that sound like a functional system to you? Identifying Gordon was top class from our management. But PSR is also a game of selling. We've had effectively zero outgoing transfer business save Minteh, and even that almost didn't get done because we waited so late. Perhaps that's because management feels we don't have assets worth selling, or it might be because they've overlooked the importance of funding your business with outgoings. In either case, that is a strategy not fit for purpose of a club that wants to be the very best, and we should be applauding that we finally have someone with the balls to say it.

We're both saying the same thing. 70 min at Fulham and I'd be a happy camper.

2 full 90s for Italy, where he looked fantastic, creative, incisive, muddles up the metaphor a bit. But I get the point. If he gets slotted into that starting spot soon it'll all be a non-issue.
-
Point bears repeating its not Longstaff's fault that he belongs nowhere near the starting xi. Doesn't make sense to get angry at him when there's a ferrari sitting on the bench ready to replace the Volkswagen, and we're whinging why the VW doesn't go fast enough for our liking.

Its really never this serious man
-
That right foot is too good to be playing him at RW. And Gordon's ability seems less restricted in that way.

Agree on this score, and have found myself wondering with Tino: where is that hunger to take on his man/make that progressive pass that we saw so much last season. There were points last season where, without exaggeration, he was our most dangerous attacking player on the pitch. I wonder why we haven't seen that at all this season. It's true he's no Trippier and we shouldn't expect him to be as they have different playstyles, but you do wonder where that attacking drive has gone with him. The defensive stoutness still seems to be there (bar some mistakes we've seen from him to start the season).

I still can't understand the anger that's come out of the fan base from his comments. The short memories of some... Gordon was an acceptance away from lining up for Liverpool this season. Is Mitchell supposed to say the transfer strategy that's directly led to that is all rosy and good? We get enough statements from top brass where they talk out of both sides of their mouth - saying one thing when the direct opposite is the case. Not the point your making I know, but how much more are we going to beat this horse dead? Hoping it won't be a mainstay until the January window.

Don't think it takes a genius to realize Paul was referring to the strictures of PSR
-
Think it's mostly Howe adjusting from 22/23. By the end of that season, we were utterly knackered, could only press for about 25-30 min, and then would sit in that low block and try to hang on. Think it could be a useful tool for us this season, however, in certain games. For example, would love to see us go into that all out press against Man City and really give it a go.

Our early success is already confusing them

You get the feeling its game by game with them and their decision on how long Eddie stays. Every right to be there and glad we have an engaged director.
