Totally backwards - should be PM presenting Eddie with options, and not the other way around.

Changing the sheets as we speak

You can lead a horse to water.... Surely the third world class DoF, or perhaps fourth one, and we'll start to get our windows right.
-
Some of you are dense, man. How many new sporting directors do we need to try out before we realize the problem with our transfer business probably lies elsewhere?
-
And for anyone who thinks I'm pulling shit out of my ass, this is a problem that's hounded the club in the recent past. Ashworth was a total dork, and a little shit for how he betrayed us, but let's not forget he felt he was being isolated by Eddie and his influence: https://www.thetimes.com/sport/football/article/dan-ashworths-email-blunder-could-cost-manchester-united-millions-nj8brswzq

What more do you need our journalists to say? Hope has all but said exactly what you are denying here. To ask the question a different way: Do you honestly think Paul Mitchell, whose entire MO is bringing in scores of youth talent, simply had zero ideas this summer? The guy who has stocked the reserves of club after club that he has worked at? We know, at this point, that he had near 70m to toy around with based on the Guehi bids. We also know - and again, this will likely ruffle feathers - that our last Director left the club in a huff because, by all accounts, he didn't have the authority he wanted. What more needs to be said? Mitchell and PIF need to pull the emergency lever and bring in talent today, or this will have been a massive failure of a window. Losing Anderson and Minteh for lloyd kelly simply isn't going to cut the mustard. If you think that the guy who is literally among the very best in the world at bringing in talent ran out of ideas with 70m burning a hole in his pocket, then I don't really think there's a productive discussion to be had here.

The club will not progress so long as Howe is pulling the transfer strings. We simply won't be able to compete with the cartel 6, who run transfer business like a highly sophisticated business (which it is), if our strategy is Howe rates X player, go get him at any cost. I know that frustrates some on here, but Hope has all but confirmed what we all suspected. Brighton just unloaded nearly a quarter billion in spending - why? Because they've invested very intelligently. We'll need to do the same if we want to progress.

Barnes on the right why????
-
It's lingering skepticism from him not being favored by Eddie last season. Will continue all season on here.
-
If he keeps playing like last game he could hate it here for the remainder of the season for all that matters

Most PL clubs do the bulk of their business in those "sexy foreign leagues." A virgil van dijk level fee for Marc Guehi is frankly astounding, which I imagine is why we haven't lodged such a bid yet despite him being our absolute top target. You can't disentangle the player from the price tag attached to them in a PSR world unfortunately.

Aldi and Simakan and this is a historic window

Guehi genuinely seems like a good lad, but I'm not sure his not putting in a request is evidence of that. Had he put in a request, Palace would have had zero leverage, and he would have been offloaded by now. To me it feels like he'd be happy to come to us, but perhaps he wants to try his luck and see if he can land at a Liverpool or a cartel 6 in the winter/next summer, and so isn't willing to rock the boat too hard...
-
In a hypothetical world where we can have Guehi for 50m in January, is his joining us now worth ~20m to you? Edit: Happy to spell out the question more clearly for you.
-
Now this is some incisive insight
-
That's a fair point. From my perspective, I guess I don't really understand our logic then on holding out over 5m. We're already in dreamland deal value territory at 65m for the lad, and by all indications, he is the be all end all top target for Eddie, so why make a big fuss over something slightly over that valuation? Confusing.
-
Someone explain to me the downside of going after Guehi again in January or the summer when his valuation deflates 15m
-
Still feel we'll get a big name in

The lad can really ping a long pass
