If we added him or Salah to our team, the first 11 would be elevated to title contenders. The output is incredible. I still think we would fall short due to lack of strength in depth.

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through old Trafford all the creatures were stirring and the mice lay like turds.

Controversial take and easy to highlight with hindsight, could have kept Chris Wood and sold Callum for £17m straight after World Cup Qatar when his stock was high. I like Callum but like so many of our players his reputation is in ruins by staying too long. We are such bad sellers.

Ideally they needed staged growth rather than big bang. Strategically that allows us to grow with every window as we make more signings, grow our wage bill etc. Sadly we didn’t grow our revenues quickly enough for the last season. A massive influx of income now would be useful, but isn’t as big a game changer as it would appear unless there remains further income growth over upcoming cycles. I completely agree we should have had a training kit, training ground and SJP sponsorship in place by now. I suspect we have tried and the Premier League have refused us. I still trust the process, but it is frustratingly slow, and expectations need to be reigned in.

It’s great to see he has made a solid start to his Forest career. I feel really sorry for the lad having to leave his home town club, he left because he loves the Toon, and took one for the team. Shame a few other professionals on big contracts wouldn’t do the same, when nearing the end of their first team Newcastle careers. Hopefully if he continues to do well, it reflects well on us as a club and some of our other fringe players begin to be purchased for good money, instead of rotting and stealing a living at a club they aren’t really good enough for anymore. I still feel Forest have underpaid us, but what could we do…

Sandro looks a lot quicker than I remember…

No way meant to cause an argument, just responding to the sentiment of your post, which I appreciate is reasonable. Why, when an ‘insignificant team’ owned by ‘Littlewoods Pools’ did it in the 60s and are now arguably in the top 5 teams in the world. There is little chance of Newcastle United or Man City, or PSG ever overtaking them in terms of reverence and prestige. I doubt any (current) state owned team will ever be truly bigger than Real Madrid, Manchester United, Barcelona, Bayern Munich or Juventus either. There could be periods where different teams are temporarily on top, and that is fantastic for the continuing evolution, interest and development of the game. If we stick as we are, no one will ever compete with the top teams in the premier league, it is folly to say we can slowly grow and get there, when the existing teams are also still growing. If a shop worker and the shop boss both increase their pay by 5% the total pay gap gets bigger, that’s the reality we face, and as we grow the elites are also growing. Look at a relatively insignificant club like Leicester City and a historically great club like Everton, they are nowhere a few years after trying to compete. Wolves are also falling away, with Leeds and Sunderland nowhere. Can’t you see we can never catch up without some form of pump priming, and that makes the football league unsatisfying for 95% of the clubs making it up. It’s bad enough those rules are in place, without our own fan base supporting it and effectively agreeing for us to be cucks.

Wouldn’t want any of this nonsense, a club should be able to spend whatever its owner wishes. I understand and appreciate we don’t want clubs to go out of business, so it should be direct owner investment if the spend is in excess of what the club makes, just like it was in the 90s. Owners should put total funding for purchases and full contracts in escrow if it would otherwise be unaffordable so the club will not suffer if the owner flips the club. Associated party transaction rules should also be abolished, they remain anticompetitive. Anything else will ultimately just safeguard the status quo, and stop the likes of Villa from remaining competitive.

I’m not advocating for Guehi at £65m, but we would be more comfortable in possession were he in the team. Pope, Krafts, Longstaff, Murphy and to a lesser extent BDB are weak technically, and struggle to play a possession and control system; that’s close to half the team. We need every player to be strong on the ball, otherwise we struggle to beat a press and resort to long balls when under pressure. Big Jow lost the ball for the goal as he also struggles a bit in possession and didn’t have good options to release the ball to. I expect performances to improve when better footballers are on the field.

I’ve not been impressed with him, but it’s difficult as the whole Palace team have been mediocre.

I think the club have been quite open in the past that they need to do it a little bit differently. We haven’t been competing in the same market as those teams, they weren’t prepared to punt on Bruno or Isak despite scouting relentlessly but we were. We have built so well over the past 3 years, why the need to suddenly go up a level or 2 for established stars… Eddie would be sacked if it failed and I can’t see that as a platform for continuing success or growth of the club. Lets pick up the next Bruno before his club wants £100m release clause meeting to sell him.
-
This is exactly what our business should be like, high ceiling 18-22 year olds with the odd massive signing thrown in. I’m suggesting we continue to buy a Botman, and Isak, a Gordon, a Tonali, a Bruno, a Tino, a Hall. Not a load of overpriced 24-26 year olds who are at or near peak value, and aren’t likely to improve as much. That approach will ruin us unless the financial rules change massively. I like the punt on Will Osula, if we signed 4 of those and one top player aged 21-24 then that would represent a successful window for me, especially without Europe this year. This is what Brighton and Bournmouth and other upwardly mobile clubs have started doing. We have an amazing first team coaching set up who will polish those diamonds. Our revenues aren’t adequate to overpay for established stars for every transfer.
-
I’ll be flabbergasted if we sign him. The recruitment strategy appears wrong, we need to buy these players before they are borderline elite. I’m surprised we aren’t shopping in a similar market to Bournmouth or Brighton, with perhaps 1 big signing per year. That said I’d be delighted if we did pull it off, he’s a real talent.
-
I’m sure we will do something late if we can. Possibly loan with options if we aren’t sure. keep our powder dry until the real targets are available. We are a proper club now, albeit limited in our spending power.
-
2 youth seats together for the spurs game, hope this helps someone. Does anyone know why these can’t be purchased by an adult and a junior member, feels a bit odd that it isn’t an option.
-
The difference is we have been open that to sell Bruno the fee was £100m, and there was a deadline to do the deal. We don’t leak details of other clubs bids via the media, we try to do our business professionally and in private. Our ITK’s haven’t got a clue, and for good reason. Palace have leaked this time and again, it’s a game to them.
-
That club have had a problem with us for 3 years since the takeover, and are mugging us off in public now. I’m quite happy to not give them any money. If Marc wants to join, he probably needs to drop in a transfer request. I don’t like our transfer business being played out in public one bit. We are clearly not tapping up, and this is just embarrassing nonsense now.
-
This is spot on, and hopefully if it happens he is a big success. Although I was very pro Anthony Gordon, and in the minority, I did feel Isak was too expensive and wanted us to sign Joao Pedro instead. I wish we were doing all this in private, and SSN, the mail and the athletic weren’t all over it. CP are a horrid club to deal with.

Time to walk away with dignity and our heads held high. They are entitled to ask for top dollar, but it doesn’t mean they will get it, and I certainly hope they don’t from us. Stinks of a lack of decency on their part stringing us along, but who knows… They are seriously deluded if they think Guehi is a generational talent, he is good, he improves us, but he doesn’t play for Real Madrid. Feel they have just messed us about for a fortnight, hoping for a bidding war that was never going to materialise. they had a (possible) generational talent in Olise who jumped ship for a Super-club. If we have the balls we should leave the offer on the table reducing by £0.5m per day the transfer window stays open, with no further negotiation. Best of British to them in a couple of years when Eze has left, Wharton has continued to progress and leaves, and Guehi does a Maddison, they might be wanting a loan or too from us, doubt we will repay the favour. Call me naive, but I thought Dougie Freeman would have had the professional decency to treat us correctly and with respect. Lets pick up someone even better!

New stadium like the Sofi, in Castle Leazes or Leazes park please and thank you. Good afternoon, good evening and good night.
-
Since we couldn’t get Olise, lost Minteh who I was all in on, and discounting Raphina, due to his salary, age and transfer fee, then Madueke has been my next choice all summer. I feel he is gettable, will improve massively under Eddie, (as long as he wants to be a top player), and is hopefully within our budget. I don’t feel he will assist us in controlling games, so could still struggle against certain opposition, but he will fit nicely into the chaos transition monster we are becoming / have become, with direct running and goal threat. As the clubs financial improve we will need a few more technical players though, so transitioning or selling some favourites is inevitable to become title chasers.
-
We should have sold him for 30m at the end of June, and repurchased him for 32m in early July.
-
Think we will know in the next couple of hours whether he sign or not. If they don’t accept we will walk.

Midfield and goalkeeper was our main issue last season.
