Simply put, he was a spiteful Cnut. I could be looking back a little wrong, but we ended that season in a similar way to how I feel Palace ended this, on the up.
-
3-4-3 can be a lovely formation, the end of that season was wonderful, and then Ashley did what Ashley does.

Yes Girona are completely independent of Man City, just ask Savio.

Bowen, canny player but is what, 28, with no significant likelihood of improvement or sell on value. He will break the bank, which is only okay if FFP etc is thrown out. Hindsight is easy, but we should have signed him when Bruceyboy had it all sewn up, feel we’ve missed the boat and Wet Spam would have our pants down now.

Miggy, be a pal and take a leaf out of Wor Joselu’s book (kindly foxtrot oscar to Saudi)

Everton, and we pay £25m for an injury prone 27/28yr old on higher wages. Game the system.
-
Surely the sensible decision is sell Callum for £25m and sign DCL for £25m. Of course Everton need to be on board.
-
If this is the case, I’d be surprised if we have breached psr. Why would we make our position worse by writing off a further 2 years of his contract, costing somewhere in the region of £5m, potentially triggering (increased) point deductions. if we could afford to write it off, we are possibly just within the limits and maybe we aren’t as desperate to sell as the media darlings would have you believe.

Not that anyone thinks the premier league is corrupt in any way…

Minteh effectively is a new signing, a prodigious talent who is scoring and creating at every level he has played at. Had an outstanding season in the Eredivisie, and is knocking them in at international level. if we were linked with him for £25m half the folk who want to sell him for £20m would probably be up for it. nothing so queer as folk.

When Laurent Robert was swinging them in towards Speed and Shearer, Aye. When P45due was in charge and we went pretty much a season without scoring from a corner, tough one that…
-
Not convinced… from those angles the ball could be in play. I wouldn’t want to say. Theres a fair chance that the goal line technology would have picked it up had it been 100% over the line.

Any idea what ‘St James’ Park events’ is. I expect it is a Sam Fender concert… but could we feasibly consider a home match at SJP to be an event occurring at SJP. Overthinking this…

We will hopefully look back on this as a great piece of business. I hope the Bournmouth guys are right about him having a trajectory to England. Probably worthwhile against the small risk that he ends up injured and on a contract we can’t shift him from.
-
I’d rather see us just beat LiVARpool, than England win the Euro’s. I’d honestly love to see England win, and the unity and feel good it would bring the country, but it pales into insignificance compared to Newcastle. Anyone putting country before club is just a plastic, sorry, not sorry if this upsets anyone.

Didn’t mind them in the Abramovich era, they broke up the Man U domination, as Arsenal fell away due to the costs of their new ground. The premier league was interesting with the special one at the helm. I don’t like that they seem to be able to circumvent the financial rules now. It particularly irks me that they received the write off of £500m of debt when the Boehly takeover happened, and that they currently seem to be immune from ffp, fmv, apt etc. if something isn’t done, I can see them being a force with their young squad, and an amazing youth academy.

Doubt this happens, fine with both. we need another body up top, and whilst another sticky plaster stop gap, he can do a job until budgets allow. Might even surprise a few of us. Weve had many stop gaps in the past, Kevin Gallen, Sibereski (sp?) etc.

The media are clearly manipulating the situation. Sky putting out on socials we need to sell before 30th June etc. We don’t appear to have much influence over main stream media, certain other clubs, Liverpool included, do, and use it to their considerable benefit. I don’t believe there has been a bid either, and I hope there isn’t one. Fwiw, and I could be wrong, I don’t believe we fail ffp in 23/24, but I do believe it is tight. Trust in the club and Eddie, not in “paper talk”.
-
We will see what bids come in over the summer, and then come back to discuss it in early September then. 👍

In a free market auction I’d be amazed if any premier league club bid more for Lewie Miley than Minteh. The transfer market is crazy with lots of ridiculous valuations, but Minteh’s numbers are elite. A number of prospects are being picked from Brazil with much lesser numbers, in a similar level league. £40m feels conservative in some ways. As a big club who may not want to sell to a direct rival, we shouldn’t allow ourselves to be manipulated into selling unless Eddie has decided he isn’t good enough, after putting him through his paces.
-
Doesn’t quite work like that. You amortise the cost over the original contract length of up to 5 years, and I believe this can then be re profiled for longer if there is a contract extension. However, for the allowable £105m losses, this is over a rolling 3 season window. Our position is okay, better than some, worse than lots, but we still need box clever and can’t afford to make big mistakes in the transfer market.

I just don’t think he is at the level of Bruno, Isak and Gordon, who are likely ambitious and able to play at a higher level. Would they wish to stick around if our major upgrade this summer is Mbuemo. We would be allocating a massive portion of our budget to fix the weakest part of our squad, but it would probably still be one of the weakest parts of the team requiring another upgrade. I don’t think he is clinical enough in front of goal, and I don’t see how he helps us become more possession based and overcome low blocks which has been an issue when lesser teams sit back. Agree he is an improvement in transition and counter attacks on our current right wingers, but that style doesn’t work against every one. I don’t really want to keep justifying why I don’t think he is the right signing, I’m not a scout and I don’t have access to data, just the eye test from watching games, where I am quite impressed, but not overly excited about for us. So let’s just leave it at that.
-
I recall seeing Isak absolutely tear it up in one game at the Euros, with Gary Linekar absolutely gushing. I don’t ever remember seeing Bryan Mbuemo having that impact on any game. I see Mbuemo as a decent premier league player who will start in a mid to lower level team, not one to make the leap to the top. This isn’t fantasy football picking up a cheap player for 5m to score a few points as substitute when the first choice is missing a game. like I said originally if we sign him, I support him and want him to do well. I want my gut feeling to be wrong. However if he signs, I think we are collectively crying out for a new right winger inside 6 months as he is levels below the remainder of our first choice front six. Gordon Isak Mbuemo Joelinton Bruno Tonali if you all think he is that level, fair play. I see him as a a Ruel Fox.
-
Not close to okay for us, unless we accept where we finished last season is about our level, and we are a club and a fan base are content to continue being a 6-8 team in the league. I thought our potential was much greater than that. if our aspiration is to be number 1 and to regularly compete for trophies from 5 years after takeover, we can’t make mid level signings for top dollar. So if he ain’t for the top 10 clubs in Europe/the world, then sorry he ain’t for me. Our FFP doesn’t allow too many signings so wasting good money in possibly our weakest area is folly, unless we are at our plateau and will rise no more. We should be signing players with Isak potential now, that is where I believe we are. Mbeumo = Ruel Fox. Looking back a player I liked, but who was limited in where he could take us.
-
I really don’t think he is at the level we need - too short and misses sitters. An upgrade on Miggy yes, and as an understudy, okay, but capable of starting regularly for a top 5-10 team in world football… not for me. Will give him my full support, and hope I am wrong if we do sign him. We should do whatever it takes to get a young generational talent in, not settle. We should be all over Olise or similar and wait for him to reject us, before heading down the list especially at a reported £50m.
