If we ended the season 6th, narrowly missing out on CL and getting EL, I’d consider that a considerable success.
-
I mean you’ve literally just been told people would view the season and the outcome of the season differently based on your hypothetical scenario. Coming back and telling people they wouldn’t because it doesn’t fit your narrative is just pretty weird.
-
…and if that happens, as you’ll see from many of my previous posts, I’ll be delighted, bow down to Eddie’s superiority and accept I was wrong. The reality of that happening? Pretty slim based on all available metrics. Fyi, Villa were 9th at this point in the season, not 12th. They were also on a run of 1 defeat in 5, ours is 3 defeats in 5.
-
If we finish 6th on GD at the end of the season, aye. A season doesn’t end in March and squad management goes up to the final day.
-
Remarkably wrong to suggest Emery coped well in a league and CL campaign because Villa “just loaned players”.
-
Why could we not make loan signings or any signings in the January window just gone?
-
I really shouldn’t have to get this basic, but what Arsenal needed then and we need right now are not going to necessarily be the same 5 points. I’d assumed that was fairly obvious to all. No. The assertion was that a manager needed a better CV (in terms of honours and league finishes) than Howe to entertain the idea of replacing him. I was pointing out that is not necessarily the case.
-
If you want to paraphrase, “he will leave if a suitable bid is made, wants to leave and will therefore encourage interest and make it likely”, is a much better reflection rather than your effort.
-
Think I’d favour a trip to USG rather than Fenerbahce tbf But as a collective our fixtures have obviously been much tougher, of course.
-
Reported a fair bit they all have a 50% salary cut on relegation as a standard clause.

Heard it here first*, Bruno will be moving on in the summer. He’s open to Man Utd but might not necessarily be the destination. He believes he’s gone as far with us as he can, wants regular CL football and his final big payday. He absolutely will not agitate for a move ala Isak. However, he will encourage one. He’s comfortable if an appropriate offer is not received that he’ll stay with us. *probably not but if turns out to be accurate I expect to receive an ITK badge or certificate. If I’m wrong, I’ll buy an Eddie Howe t-shirt. Mixed feelings in that I would be gutted to lose him, but he’s been so good for us I’d be happy for him to get what he wants. Would much prefer it to be abroad if it has to happen. Hopefully it’s one of him and Tonali and not both as that would be huge to replace both.
-
Probably because most of the others he ‘won’ were correctly given as a foul, so do not count.
-
Oh aye, apologies, I may have misworded that. I wasn’t suggesting Parker isn’t good enough, the hilarity of it would be how far they have fallen and how uninspiring/uncharismatic he is compared to where they think they should be.
-
So you’re criticising people for having concerns which you feel are based on one season, whilst simultaneously criticising people for having concerns over both the successful and not successful periods? Sounds like you’re just unwilling to accept concerns exist.
-
His comments are basically what we’ve all said on here. Not sure what he’s said wrong there at all.
-
Well, I had the concerns and said “hopefully he’ll learn and adapt, let’s give him time to work it out and hopefully we won’t see a repeat of the same mistakes”. A bit like you are now.
-
That’s because I’ve given him time to adapt and change and improve and not based my decision on “one season” or “one defeat”. At what stage can you suggest a change is needed without it correlating to one specific moment in time?
-
This gets trotted out on here regularly, as well as, “people only want him to go after a defeat”, but you only need to read through the credible comments across these pages to recognise the concerns with Howe go throughout his time with us and Bournemouth.
-
Who would manage them in the Championship? Genuinely would let a little bit of urine out if it was someone like Scott Parker.
-
Would love the thought of any of them trying to take the ball off Joelinton in training. Can imagine him walking with the ball and four of them hanging off his back.
-
He has to be on the pitch to score goals. He has more league goals this season than Elanga (1 vs. 0) but despite that, in the last 9 games they’ve been available for selection, Wissa has 202 minutes, Elanga has 557. Nobody can convince me that Wissa would have a worse return than Elanga if he was given the same opportunities. In his last 4 games, Wissa has not been on the pitch for longer than 28 minutes at a time. Strikers will rarely impact games used like that. That includes, by the way, the home tie against Qarabag where there was no reason not to start him. In the absence of any credible reports on his attitude, it’s astounding we’re refusing to use him.
-
There was a moment yesterday when Trippier actually tried to play it to Elanga but for the first time in his entire Newcastle career, Elanga had set off rather than come short, Trippier played it short and the defender took it The frustration from Trippier was there for all to see. No idea if Elanga is just really thick or just struggling to understand his role in the team.
-
Howe is here and we trigger Ramsdale’s option, without a shadow of a doubt. If either go, Pope will. Willock won’t be sold. Schar will be extended. Krafth will depart but no need to replace as he’s barely been here. Trippier will be an interesting one. I’d not be surprised at all if Howe extended him but I would hope that’s a step too far even for him.
-
Absolutely delighted to see their contingency plan is as mental as their current plan. I was fearful they might bring in a competent and serious long term solution. These are in so, so much trouble What’s Felix Magath up to these days?
-
Howe has already said he doesn’t want to see the same number of first team changes next summer. Anyone who thinks Howe should remain but want/expect this big rebuild will be very mistaken.
