  1. Correct. Howe wanted to keep Wilson. What a dreadful decision that would have been too.
  2. To be fair, most of them just don’t care too much about football. It’s a job for them. Wissa will no doubt have friends in the mackems team. Sadiki is a fellow international, isn’t he? I have loads of friends who work for competitors at work. If they win a contract or an award, I’d probably like their LinkedIn post. I wouldn’t think “oh no, my customers at work might get really sad about this”. We wrongly expect footballers to have the same passion and desire about the club as we do. Often they don’t.
  3. Elanga was dreadful today. Murphy was even worse somehow when he came on mind. He constantly loses the ball or gives it away, often in dangerous positions. His attempt where he hit the side netting was poor and he should have done better. The amount of times someone has gone to play the ball to him, only to see him run in an opposite direction is scandalous. He just doesn’t have an intelligent football brain or understands what the plan his team mates have. He was never going to be a good signing, his is the worse by a mile this summer as it was so obvious he was nowhere near what we need. If Wissa had played as often as Elanga has, would he possibly look slightly better than we’ve seen too?
  4. No club promoted from the National League has been relegated from the Football League in their first season since automatic promotion was introduced in 1986/87, with the tally now reaching 59 clubs. The record remains intact following victories yesterday for both Barnet and Oldham, the two sides promoted last season. Saw this and thought it was quite a remarkable stat. They should definitely introduce a 3rd team promoted from the National League and relegated from League Two. York with a +64 goal difference, 104 goals scored and likely to reach 100+ points and still not certain of going up is criminal, happens often.
  5. To be fair, it’s only a few pages back that people were demanding a list of replacements for Howe otherwise it’s unacceptable to suggest he should leave. We’re not sporting directors either. The point I was making is if anyone has turned those clubs down, how many of them have a CV that only has one League Cup and two CL entries on it? The calibre of manager to reject those clubs is not Eddie Howe.
  6. If Man Utd or Liverpool wanted Howe, they’d have him. It’s naive to think otherwise. Howe isn’t locking into a project with us when he’s criticising the speed of that project publicly. Quadrupling his wage, the ability to compete for major honours every season and ‘at worst’ ending up somewhere like Everton or Villa after is not something any manager will turn down. Out of interest, who was the last manager to turn down one of those clubs? Discounting Spurs as they’re only there by Londonism.
  7. Fair point. Those clubs are well known for considering the commitment of players/managers to their current club. Never been known to come in like a bulldozer expecting the club and player to jump for their tune.
  8. Man City are thinking of Marseca because he’s Pep-lite and it’s a smooth transition for the players in terms of playing style. Howe is so far away from that style, they’d need to buy a new team. Absolute nonsense they’d take him.
  9. All of those clubs have changed manager whilst he’s been in post (some more than once), why have none considered him so far?
  10. Genuinely wouldn’t be that bothered if we sold him for a decent fee. Far too many injuries and he’s great but Hall is better and more important of the two fullbacks. My worry would be his exit would lead to Trippier staying on.
  11. To be fair, Wissa wasn’t his first choice, keeping Wilson was.
  12. Just seen there was an allegation of racism towards a mackem player. If true, absolutely disgraceful and remarkable how often our scumbag elements of our support manage to embarrass us every time they come to town.
  13. John Terry being a massive racist? Well, I am shocked. There’s been no evidence of that before.
  14. Looks similar to my ECG during most games.
  15. Deserves it. Pleased for him.
  16. That graphic perfectly describes us under Howe: Start intense, maybe get a goal. Fade out towards halftime, concede a sloppy goal either just before or after HT. 61-75 played out with us struggling to break them down. Concede goals towards the end as we lose our minds. Reckon that could be the match report for 75% of our games this season.

    Joe Willock

Because it was a chosen substitution before the game. Like most of them. Wolte was our best player. We then sub him off and bring Murphy on to whack endless crosses in to nobody.
  18. If any of those clubs wanted him, they’d have already swooped in and taken him. Lets not pretend those 3 clubs are waiting for him to become a free agent because they couldn’t just pick him out right from underneath us.
  19. It’s not difficult to see why some people are blinded by loyalty to Howe, he’s achieved an incredible amount with us. Go on Leicester’s forum and see the same conundrum playing out regarding their ownership, an ownership that gave them a league title and FA Cup. However, the ownership is now faltering and rapidly taking them backwards. Some see that and are calling for change. Others are saying “careful what you wish for”, “who would be better owners?”, “credit in the bank”, “they were good for us before”. Some of the people on here have openly said they would never replace Howe, even if we were relegated, so it’s a bit of a moot point to discuss with them when they are adamant they’ll never change their viewpoint despite the evidence in front of them. I think he should be replaced in the summer, assuming the season doesn’t turn around overnight and we somehow end up 6th or something. I won’t repeat my reasons why, I’ve said them repeatedly during both the good times and bad. However, I don’t think the ownership will act. I hope lessons have been learned from the summer and our transfer business is conducted very differently otherwise it could be a very tough season next season.
  20. I’ve no doubt if Howe stays next season we will end up in the European places and some decent cup runs. However, the following season we’ll have a shite league campaign, again, ending up out of Europe and starting yet another rebuild. Might be a good enough existence for some but is nowhere near the stated ambitions of the club or what we could/should be capable of. He’s not shite, he’s not a bad person, he’s achieved a hell of a lot more than I ever expected to see as a Newcastle supporter. However, he has a ceiling and we’ll either need to bump our head on it every other season or decide we need to move house.
  21. It’s because opposition managers make tactical changes at half time and it totally exposes Howe’s limitations. It’s not a fluke or accident, it’s clear as day and has been there throughout his time with us and during the rest of his career, both good times and bad.
  22. I’ve rather Wolte up front and Gordon behind in a 10, or even both up together. Putting Wolte in a midfield with a team of cloggers who will just crowd him out and kick him would be such an odd choice.
  23. Just pick the best and most in form English players, it’s fairly simple. England managers have never consistently done this. There is many years worth of evidence that players from the Sly 6 tend to get picked regardless. You’re also reaching to come on here and tell me how wrong I am, only to then concede you’ve not watched anything of Mainoo this season. Barnes deserves an England call up this season and there are multiple players on that list who are either not better than him, not as in form as him, or both. It also seems to be a theme that the out of form players that have been chosen, coincidentally play for one of the Sly 6. Other than Henderson but as others have said, his inclusion is entirely a leadership decision, whether that is right or wrong can be debated. You can also underperform as a team but also have players who have performed well individually. That’s an odd argument to make.
