aye but on the plus side he's hopefully developed mentally and become stronger mentally having been left out the team for no good reason, and roeder's refusal to play him is surpassed only by his refusal to play luque.

Refusing to play N'Zogbia was a vastly, vastly more unforgivable act.

N'Zogbia had been one of our best players, whereas Luque had never really given any reason to be included, other than internet fanboyism.

aye, of course, but, although luque never showed anything for us roeder would have rather played the geordie dancer, at least Zog could get a game if the rest of the squad was injured.

he's now looking interested, doesn't look like a left back and not producing enough in the opps half but plenty there to be working with.

(don't start with the "he's scored twice" stuff, 1 free kick and 1 shot do not mean he's playing well going forward)

a return to the n,zogbia of the season before last could well  have allardyce playing 4-4-2.

He's playing left-back though in all fairness, can't really expect him to be doing a whole lot more going forward.

Number of times I've seen him beat a man but because it's generally the RW of the other team it's not getting him into a telling position, as there's still another line of defence to be beaten.

Once he's in a more advanced role he'll be in much better position to do something when he does beat his man, which he'll do frequently.

not so sure,he done plenty of that against villa and his final ball was as last season. not blaming him for the longer balls to the edge as i think that was a poor team tactic.

Zoggy's still got some improvement to make IMO. He's looked good attacking from full back, but he gets more space and time to run forward with the ball than he would if he were on the wing.

He either needs to improve his defensive work and become a full back, or learn to keep control of the ball in tight spaces and become a winger. At the moment, I think he's a bit in-between.

 Epitomised his Villa performance. Beat his first man, then lost his way when he had to run on another 20 yards/2 players than usual. Can't wait to see him back at left-wing.

Ze most exciting player on our books looks like he's finding his smile again.

I'm delighted, personally.

Deliberate HBK reference?

You'll never believe me, but I knew you'd comment on that

It's rather fitting, though. Here's a lad who seemed to have the world at his feet before certain events took place which caused him to lose his way for a good while, now he's back looking something near his previous best and with a lot better to still come... hopefully.

Can't see him being here "forever", but we should get another good year or two out of him before his head gets properly turned.

We know he's a bit of a playa' as well, just like HBK, don't we? ;)

All depends on how well we progress as a club and how often he's getting his game for us. If we start moving in the right direction again and are challenging for Top 4 within a few years then there's no reason we shouldn't be hoping to hold on to him.

Think he'll be the business on the left of a 4-3-3 too, and despite some teething problems so far I reckon it's pretty nailed on we're going to be playing that system. We've got 5 CM in the squad and only really two wingers in N'Zogbia and Milner (Solano looks out of the picture) so I' imagine it's here to stay.

Always been impressed by N'Zogbia's eye for goal, couple of times he's shown a cool head to put away chances. His goal at Blackburn and calm finish at home to Portsmouth in Roeder's first game come to mind.

Get him running at full-backs one on one and I think he'll make that spot his own.

He still needs to improve his dribbling, he is an exciting player but he does run into crowds too much and lose possesion. To be fair though thats one of his very few weakenesses so he isn't doing bad.

I'm excited to see him and Enrique down the left, like. Imagine if it clicks?

Two twenty-one year olds from foreign shores down our left flank, at least until January when Enrique turns 22.

Could have Taylor and Milner down the right as well, for all we know, at least in the immediate future - both 22 in January as well!

An experienced core/spine to the team with youthful exuberance out wide. Sounds alright to me.

Good stuff.

Rather have a specialist right back tho.

Undoubtedly that's the ideal scenario, but if it doesn't come off I'd rather have Faye/Cacapa/Rozehnal in the centre-half position and not see Taylor ousted from the team altogether. If anything, playing at RB would force him to improve his positional sense and his footballing skills, more than just being the pure "blocker" he seems to be at the moment. Might do him the world of good and he could prosper there until he's properly "ready" to make one of the centre-back positions his own.

He's had some very good games at RB if my memory is serving me right and I'd like to see him at least tested there. Gives our defence a very heighty look to it, as well, which you know I'm high on, (no pun intended.) We could be looking at the entire back four being between six-feet and six-three, which won't do us any harm in the Premiership at all, especially away from home.

Skipper is secret of Charles’ success

Aug 28 2007

by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle

SAM ALLARDYCE has pinpointed the reason for Charles N’Zogbia’s excellent start to the new season – Newcastle United captain Geremi.

Geremi has stepped in as N’Zogbia’s mentor – a role previously filled by Jean Alain Boumsong – with the young Frenchman still in need of a bit of guidance.

The 21-year-old midfielder went into a decline last season following the departure of Boumsong to Juventus and the untimely death of his father.

And N’Zogbia had looked destined for a summer exit after his Vicarage Road walkout on the final day of last season, when he stormed out of the dressing room after learning he was not in the United team to face Watford.

The 21-year-old had become unsettled under Allardyce’s predecessor Glenn Roeder late last term, amid talk that Arsenal were ready to bid for him.

And Roeder tore a strip off N’Zogbia at Fratton Park after a desperate performance in United’s 2-1 defeat to Portsmouth.

N’Zogbia, however, has remained at the club, and he started to turn things round in the 2-0 win over Juventus at St James’ Park, following it up by scoring United’s first Premiership goal of the season at Bolton Wanderers.

And Allardyce is calling on N’Zogbia to listen to his experienced team-mates and show the same kind of attitude and commitment over the coming weeks and months.

He said: “The young man’s talented, but with not much direction.

“He has a body language in that he does not appear to be too happy on a day-to-day basis, but he gets on really well with Geremi and that’s helped him. Geremi is a father figure to him and Charles is listening and learning.

“Having someone talking to him like Geremi can help him understand the game a bit more. He can grow from there and be a good player.

“Not all players with great ability can be great players. He’s got to have an equally good attitude to get the best out of himself.”

In an ideal world, N’Zogbia would not choose to play at left-back, but that is where he has been forced to turn out while new £4.2m signing Jose Enrique eases himself towards full match fitness.

And Allardyce added: “Coming from deep, Charles can see the picture a little bit more and he ends up having more space to run into as a left-back. He has got terrific ability when he gets there, as we saw with his goal at Middlesbrough, and he can beat defenders and get the final cross in.”
