Mick
Blame the players for playing s*** then, not the manager. The formula was changed, no two ways about it. Btw, "nothing matters when Ameobi's playing" and "we're not as good as Man Utd" ... cracking arguments there. You've got to blame the manager for allowing those who played shit to remain on the field, N'zogbia should have been pushed up with Milner moving to the right, all we needed to do was stick somebody at left-back. I thought taking Owen off was a terrible decision at the time but if he’s injured then it had to happen, if we ever get an offer for him then we should take it as the bloke is a total liability. He doesn’t get himself injured but I’m sick of him being fit for England then injured for us. I don't know how it looked on TV but it was very poor watching it live. Smith has been poor in most games yet he was picked, Shola was terrible yet he stayed on when we should have been trying to keep the ball away from the Derby defenders who seemed to get everything in the air, Shola's head must be the same shape as a 50p piece because the ball never seems to go where he wants it to when it bounces off his head, he's also slower than my dead grandfather. Our midfield was so far away from our defenders that I thought the pitch had been stretched, the gap after they beat our midfield and before they got to our defence seemed massive. I don’t know who was supposed to be our right winger when we were supposed to have gone 4-4-2 because I didn’t see him, it must have been the invisible man, and I don’t mean Smith. Taylor looked OK to start with but he ran himself into the ground and ended up looking ragged, he looked very poor at the end although he still tried, he's not a wing-back. Other than Taylor, I don't think we had anybody who did anything worth mentioning, Harper didn't have a lot to do, people were slagging him off again for taking his time when kicking, the problem for him was that nobody moved to create anything, he ended up just kicking anywhere in the hope that it wouldn't come straight back at him. bobbydazzla
every one of our lot who made it on to the pitch had a shitter last night. shit passing, no creativity, slipping over, a shambles at dead balls, muscled off the ball, beaten to the 50/50's etc etc etc I can't think of one player who could come out of last nights debacle with any credit. definitely one of the worst collective performances I've can remember seeing from the toon. no tactics in the world would get a result from such an off-form set of players. I'd fine them a weeks wages each to get their minds focused ahead of the West Ham game. >

I expect to see several changes against W Ham, players in proper positions would be a good start.
Guest michaelfoster
Harper - 6. too far off his line for goal but made a good save to keep at 1-0 Taylor - 6. worked hard, got forward but with little impact Cacapa - 5. Disapointing Rozehnal - 5. Should of scored N'Zogbia - 5. Cant tackle very well, conceded stupid fouls Milner - 6. Needs to work on his crossing imo Smith - 4. Only seen him when he got booked Geremi - 5. Butt - 5 Poor, gave ball away too much, passing & first touch abysmal. Owen - 5. Didnt have any service Ameobi - 4 Sell him please. SUBS Faye - 5. Did little. Beye - 5. Did little Martins - 5. Ran around but did nowt. I think tactically & team selection were wrong. N'Zogbia needs to be pushed further forward, Smith should not be played wide right as he's ineffective, Ameobi had his chance and blew it, i think he's not worth keeping as he will never be a first team player and with Owen, Martins, Viduka, Smith & Carroll, he wont play much when everyone is fit & after tonight's shambles he shouldnt get anywhere near the team. I said this after the last match but you cant play Butt & Geremi together its just too defensive. Butt was very poor yesterday his short passing was terrible, his first touch kept giving it to the opponents, his tackling either conceded fouls or he tackled thin air. He tried to shoot from long range when he knows he cant, when Barton returns, Butt should be dropped from the 16 man squad. When Enrique is fit drop someone to get him back into LB, move N'Zogbia LM and Milner RM with Barton & someone else in the centre, I think Geremi should be used as a RB not a CM. Please give Martins a chance, he was top scorer last season and doesnt deserve to be benched behind a fat aussie & a crap english/nigerian. Finalyl Harper was out of position for the goal, he was at least 6-7 yards from his line which is like a wet dream for long range shooters so bring back Given IMO. Tactically playing 4-4-2 with big man, little man up front didnt work. Shola might be a tall bloke at 6 foot 4 but his heading is actually quite poor so theres no point going route 1 with the long ball. Even when wwe kept the ball accross the floor we were going through the middle, we wernt going wide enough, ithink we would be better when N'Zogbia & Milner are on the wings with Martins/Owen up front to play short, high tempo passing. I really hope things improve otherwise if we keep playing as we did on Monday we will struggle to finish in the top 8. Thoughts?
Cronky
A lot of people seem to be pinning their hopes on us improving if or when Zoggy moves forward into the midfield. Yes, it would be nice to relieve him of some of his defensive responsibilities, but at the same time he'd have less space and time on the ball when trying to move forward. I think there's a lot of room for improvement still with Zoggy even in an attacking sense, and I'm not that optimistic myself. It's a big advantage to a team to have a defensive midfielder and full backs who can use the ball well. Although they are mainly defensive positions, they do tend to see a lot of the ball and if they can pass it constructively that can be a real boost. Last night, we weren't getting much from Butt, Zoggy or Taylor and Allardyce needs to address that.

Guest SLK
What is very disturbing is that sam had absolutely no idea how to change the pattern of the game. He could not make a tactical switch with the players on the fiel, and the introduction of two defensive players with limited ability going forward was absurd when we were chasing the game. Tactically inept and very reminiscent of Glenn Roeder as neither of them had any answers. f****** embarrasing that it was on Monday night as well for the rest of the country to have a laugh at us. The more things change, the more they stay the same. It wasn't absurd in the slightest. Beye i'd imagine is a more attack minded full back than Taylor.... so bring him on. Faye came on to act as a second holding player when we switched to 443 to give Smith the chance to bomb forward a bit. I don't think that's negative. I think all we are seeing is a team who don't quite know how to play with each other properly yet. It will happen in time though. We were always going to slip up at some point. It was absurd...The whole selection was wrong from the START...Butt and Geremi in the middle are NOT good...Alan Smith on the right side as is NOT good, Ameobi in the team is NOT good... If we were playing 4-4-2 then Smith should have partnered Butt and Geremi should have been on the right wing...Else we could have kept Geremi in the middle and replaced Butt with Alan Smith and put Beye as RW and not taken Taylor off... Guest SLK
No, dumbshit. Merely pointing out that I can appreciate a tactical change that leads to a change in the pattern of a game. I didn't see much difference last night at all. Dumbshit? Love you babes. OK, that's fine. But you can't blame the manager. He made the change, it's up to the players to make it effective. I blame the manager for sticking with Ameobi the whole game...Ok for first half but it was obvious for everyone that his contribution to the game was FOUL, OFF SIDE, MISS CONTROL, FOUL, OFFSIDE, MISS CONTROL, FOUL, OFFSIDE, MISS CONTROL and repeat infinitely... Northern Monkey
Ameobi - shit Smith - Shit Geremi - poor Butt - poor Cacapa - poor ...lets face it, we could go on. Tactics (manager) and their execution (players) were woeful. Those who wanted Ameobi to get a chance, or thought Smith was good enough, or wanted Taylor not in the middle of defence: you were wrong. That is all.

If you look at N'Zogbia's positioning throughout a lot of games this season, he's not really been playing out on the left but central midfield. More often than not he'll try to cut inside and its only paid off once this season.

We made a weekend of it and spent most of the time in Nottingham luckily. Got the train away from the ground so that wasn't too bad at least. The Derby fans were acting like they'd won the league though, which fucked me off even more.
