The Mail are going with a slightly less fwap-worthy:

Ipswich are hoping to persuade Newcastle midfielder Alan Smith to join them.

The 31-year-old is expected to be released by Newcastle although manager Alan Pardew may hold onto him until the end of the window as he has a threadbare squad and is struggling to bring in reinforcements within his budget.

:scared:

Cock has been re-holstered :(

Sounds pretty certain that he's off out the door from that other article, even including his appearance at their training ground. I will choose to believe that one. Brilliant, isn't? No longer left to worry about him making a late 'cameo'.

He's done very well for himself considering he was a shit thuggish non scoring forward with a worse England record than Carlton Palmer when he was 'good' then one of the shittest midfielders you'll ever see just because Ferguson had a brain fart and tried playing him there. In a normal universe he would have drifted into the lower leagues with Leeds.

Was about to say the England reference is harsh considering the relatively few appearances he made. A quick Wiki check, he really made 19 fucking England appearances? :kasper:

Didn't he make an England appearance after he joined us, up front with Owen? Might have been that England B shite.

It was the England-Brazil game where the front 2 was indeed Smith and Owen (it was also the first senior England international match at the new Wembley!).

It was England - Germany where both started as strikers and where Owen missed some clear chances. Wasn't that the first at new Wembley?

Nope, it was the England-Brazil game which was the first senior international at the new Wembley. I remember it because I was invited to the game by a couple of mates, couldn't make it though because I had an exam the next morning. Booo.
