ohmelads
I'm in South Korea at the moment, I asked my Korean friend if he knew anything about us buying a Korean player and he instantly said Jae-Jin Cho's name. He seems well known enough, but he didn't think he was that good a player, thought it was a strange signing for us. That's about all I could find out what with my Korean being very poor and his English not exactly fluent! I'll try and ask around, see if I can find out any more info about him. Not exactly an inspiring signing though, surely even with Martins' departure to the ACN we have enough strikers to get us through this season? Viduka, Smith, Owen, Ameobi should get us through 5 months. I do subscribe to the view that we should be looking to find Owen's replacement now, as I don't see him staying beyond the summer. Shola's clearly not in Sam's plans either and Viduka is getting on. Therefore we should be looking at signing a top quality Owen replacement now or just sticking with what we've got and looking at a summer signing. This would suit neither approach and as poor as Ameobi is I'd be shocked if this guy can come straight into the Prem and play significantly betterr. A bizarre move to say the least. ohmelads
pistonism I see you're in Gyeonggi-Do, me too. I don't suppose you know any good bars in Seoul to catch the Newcastle games? I wouldn't leave your cell phone number on here mate, although I suppose the little charvas back home will be running up a huge bill if they try calling that! ohmelads
Just a marketing signing im sure. He's not exactly Park Ji Sung, I can't see millions of Koreans rushing out to buy toon shirts for Jae-Jin Cho! In fact I honestly think it'd have very little impact. Believe it or not I've seen very few people wearing football shirts here.

Im just guessing though as i can't see why Sam would think this player would improve the squad given his lack of experience in good leagues.

There is a bar that shows footy and often has our matches on in Itaewon. The South Korean supporters group heads over there on matchdays sometimes. And I'm sure it'll be much easier to catch our matches anywhere once the Cho deal is tied up, since MBC-ESPN will probably pick up all of them as they've already done for ManU, Spurs, Boro, and Fulham. Guest bottomup
I'm a Korean guy who's been following the Toon since late 90s. To make a long story short, Cho Jae-Jin is as bad as Lee Dong-Gook at Boro. Do I need to explain more? I'm sorry, but we don't have quality strikers to export right now. He's not even popular among Korean football fans. He's popular among Korean girls who don't care about football except footballers' thigh muscle. Don't expect Koreans to buy black and white shirts. We don't spend silly money for a crap player. All I ask is to ship him back nice, and don't be too nasty. It's only good news for Lee Dong-Gook because he has a buddy to accompany him when he's shipped back soon.

Guest pistonism
Let's just hope this guy will do something like Sibierski. Wasn't Le sib some kind of 'disgraceful signing' at first?

My best guess is that Big Sam perhaps rates his aerial power. The best you probably can expect from him is a kind of Davis' role (spell? the bolton guy with a huge forehead). Mr Logic
Watching Youtube clips he looks all right, but of course that's just 5 minutes of football showing the times where he got it right.

LooneyToonArmy
From nufc.com (if you didnt see it already).....then again, it is David Pleat mind The 26-year-old currently plays in the J-League for Shimizu S-Pulse and was described as follows by David Pleat in his Guardian 2006 World Cup column: Players who have one outstanding quality are more advantageous to a team than an individual with several characteristics but no top attribute. A previous mentor of mine once called such players "over-round mediums". This South Korean centre-forward looked a colossus in the air when playing against Switzerland, particularly in the second half. His energetic running constantly troubled the Swiss defence as he foraged down the channels. In the first period he did not receive the service to make me sit up and see this quality in the air as he was marked by Philippe Senderos, who did particularly well before succumbing to injury. But in the second half, when South Korea had to go a more direct route, Jae-Jin was first-class, jumping well, aggressive and always aware of colleagues to whom to place the ball. Shimizu S-Pulse, his J League team, have a target man who should be watched closely. He played like a traditional English centre-forward when teams played in a direct style. I saw similarities to Kevin Davies at Bolton and past heading giants such as Tommy Lawton, Nat Lofthouse, Tony Hateley and, more recently, Alan Shearer.[/]

toontownman
just a squad filler. cant see why anyone is complaining. we obviously dont have sacks of money to throw around in january. i can see ameobi leaving and i dont think we could accomodate a big name striker without upsetting those we have. he is likely at least to be a bit hungrier than any big signings that would only be coming here for the money.
