MW
I'd keep him if he accepts to wage cut. If he doesn't he's an immoral, unloyal twat. Why sack him though? Would we not need to pay him off? We could probably get some money for him, I'm sure someone would gamble on it at a cheap price.
bealios
Not conding what he did or anything, but I seem to remember being at a lot of games home and away towards the end last season where he was applauded from the pitch, and generally most fans were positive about him. Nothing has changed since then really - the event was at Christmas before his return to form, so there would seem to be some very hypocritical people commenting on this thread... Sacking him would be a ludicrous decision - we paid £5m for a player who beat his colleague senseless in training, with full knowledge of that fact, and then when he does it again we act all shocked and then sack him and losing any hope of resale value. Disagree completely. We offered him a second chance, and he's thrown it back in our faces and then some.........and lest we forget his rather ironic vicious rant at the fans. It's not as if he's worth it anyway, as his performances last season were generally shite bar three or four games. Get rid of the horrible little cunt, before he heaps more shame on the club. Guest Heneage
He has to be willing to take a pay cut imo. We took a chance.
toontownman
I know its a long shot given our history of ineptness with contracts, but who is to say we hadnt inserted clauses into bartons contract to cover this? from bartons point of view he should take the pay cut and earn himself back. it would be easy enough to quit though, some struggling premier league or upper championship side will pick him up
jimmymag
Well done Ashley! He'll have to take the financial hit, but he'll learn from it and never sanction a signing like scumbag Barton in the future because he now knows that the character of the individual is just as important as the level of footballing ability. This last bit is interesting though if we could claw back some of what we paid Of particular interest to Newcastle will be Chelsea's victorious damages claim against their former striker Adrian Mutu last week. In what was the first case of its kind at the highest level of the sport, a Fifa ruling demanded that Mutu pay his old club £9.6 million in damages after testing positive for cocaine in 2004. Newcastle could look to emulate the success.

Wullie
I think there's a very clear difference between the Mutu situation and Barton's which will stop any such action - that being that Mutu's actions made him unavailable for selection and therefore in pretty obvious breach of his contract for a whole season. Barton on the other hand might not even miss one game.

Not gonna happen.
Dan Gleebals
The chants next season, assuming we keep him (and play like we did last season) at away games should be interesting at least!! Cannot see him playing for us again tbh. It would show a positive step in the right directon from the club if we fuck him off. We are, if to be believed, trying to attract the best young players of the future. Barton is no role model for up and coming pro's, simple as that. Guest nufc_geordie
This must be one of the most hypocritical fan bases in the world. We all knew what he has done in the past, we signed him after he beat the sh*t out of Dabo and we all knew he was guilty (the CCTV couldn't have been more damning) of the attack in Liverpool, yet the majority of fans cheered him on and applauded him in the final games of the season. Since then nothing has changed, we all expected him to be locked up, that happened. I don't condone what he did in the slightest, but as nothing has changed in my eyes, I say let the guy do his time, and let him get back to his football. That is the most sensible and financially viable option.

Guest nufc_geordie
Where are the people who were applauding him at the end of the season? I am not ashamed to say I was as he was one of our better players those last few games. Nothing has changed since then, funny how poeple crawl back under their rocks! Dave
I'm still undecided on this. I suppose I'd not be disappointed whether we decide we keep him or get rid of him really.
Mick
If I was Barton I wouldn't take a pay cut, we knew what we were buying and by that we accepted that he could go to prison at some stage, we got what we deserved.

Guest elbee909
How's Barton ever going to give his all for the club now? Should have just sacked him, this pay-cut thing is a half-arsed measure.
madras
then again he couldn't complain about getting sacked either I think he could and would, I also think he'd have a good chance of winning his case. how ? he can not fulfill his side of the contract through his own doing. bizzarely had he been put away for the dabo incident, because that was before he signed for us and we knew the case was imminent,he may have had a case. as it it i dont see what case he has.
