James
I thought there might be some words from Keegan by now, rehashed or otherwise. There was something I found bizarre and cagey with unclear context on Friday. Not sure we'll get much more right now.
James
http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=49066.50 KEVIN KEEGAN will breeze back into his office on Monday banking on Newcastle United's "spirit and togetherness" to start the ball rolling for next season. The United boss has yet to add to his first-team squad since returning to St James’s Park in January and he has a number of problems to contend with on his return from holiday. But Keegan is champing at the bit after his break in the US – and he is confident the players will be the same. He says: “The players all went home with different agendas. But they’ll come back with a spirit and togetherness that we’ve got at the club now. “We’ve had no-one saying: ‘It’s not a good club’. The players have never said anything like that. “And any player or member of staff who has left has been treated respectfully.” Keegan is still United’s best asset, and there is no-one better to get to grips with everything that has still to be sorted out. Geremi and Abdoulaye Faye are still playing – in World Cup qualifiers tomorrow – Joey Barton is in jail and Mark Viduka is likely to miss the start of the season with an Achilles tendon problem, Three key players – keeper Steve Harper, central defender Steven Taylor and striker and skipper Michael Owen – all see their contracts run out in exactly 12 months, and in an ideal world Keegan would have all three tied up as soon as possible. His first-team coach Steve Round’s deal runs out next week and he does not know whether he is going to be retained. After motoring north yesterday, having touched down on his flight from the US in London, Keegan woke up today to headlines saying that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has renewed his interest in Oba Martins. And to reports that United had tried to sell Martins to Liverpool last month. Keegan is just the man to get stuck into all this – and despite United’s problems, he is still better off than one of his predecessors, Glenn Roeder, was three years ago. For two years ago tonight, Michael Owen damaged his knee ligaments playing for England against Sweden in the World Cup, leaving Roeder without his top man for almost the whole of the following season. Keegan is one of the most positive men in football and he insists: “We will now try and pick it up ready for next season.”
Dave
Why are you posting that again?
Syrette
Seen that before, not sure why you posted it again. Regardless... lets get things going then, I'm eagerly awaiting bringing players in and tying existing players down to new contract if the need is there. Wouldn't mind seeing three or four players leave either (Ameobi, Duff, Smith, Barton).
