Guest johnson293
Something else from The People.... 25 May 2008 MIKE ASHLEY SET TO SELL NEWCASTLE By Martin Hardy Mike Ashley is considering selling Newcastle United - but he wants £300 million for he club he took over last year. Chairman Chris Mort is set to quit his role in the St James' Park hotseat to return to his job as a lawyer with Freshfields. Mort has completely restructured the club since he was appointed and Ashley believes the work he has done makes the club a more saleable asset. He paid £134m for the Magpies this time last year in a surprise takeover. But he was stunned to find Newcastle's debts greater than anticipated at around £100m and key in Mort's role has been discovering the exact levels and either paying them off or putting guarantees against them. That has been done and with Mort set to be replaced by Derek Llambias, Ashley would be ready to sell, if he could find a buyer. After the departure of manager Sam Allardyce Ashley brought back Toon hero Kevin Keegan. But that is now a rocky relationship, with Keegan left feeling undermined by the appointment of Dennis Wise as football director.
Guest geordienorway
The Ashley-rumour is bollocks. It would have been great with SWP though.

Skirge
Just coz Mort is stepping down so they do the Mike selling the club, utter shite, BUT if Liverpool want Milner and we can get SWP then I am okay with that as long as its a good price for Milner. Decky
Wouldnt be suprised if Curbishly offers us Ashton plus £10million for Carr, the way that mong spends West Ham's money, and i know we released him btw

Skirge
If we go after Ashton then this club has lost the plot, he would be a complete waste of money but Carr they can have for free.
stozo
Technically no reason to highlight Carr's news as he no longer plays for us.
JH
Again, the media refusing to answer the question of why a man would buy a club, discover the debts were so large, pay them off then decide to sell up. Surely, if you find large debts, you sell up then. You don't pay them off then sell for a lower price. They must be fucking idiots if they think anyone is going to believe it. Guest Stephen927
If we go after Ashton then this club has lost the plot, he would be a complete waste of money but Carr they can have for free. Nice gesture Would love Shaun Wright Phillips here, but would only really fit in if we went back to 4-4-2. Suppose he could play well in Martins position. Wonder which players Liverpool offered, if they did. I'd guess, Pennant and Finnan or Arbeloa for Milner.
Tisd09
Of all the right sided players we have been linked with I would be happiest with SWP. IMO he was unlucky to lose his Chelsea place as he was playing well. He would improve our team and hopefully he had a good relationship with Keegan at City, so that would help in negotiations, I assume that a number of clubs would be after him. If we're to continue playing 4-3-3 then a straight swap for Kuyt (or Cr uch) would do me.

Guest Geordiesned
Keegan is being sacked and to be replaced by Marcelino- Racing Santander manager i think according to the Suday Sun Marcelino in, King Kev out? NEWCASTLE are again considering replacing Kevin Keegan with top Spanish coach Marcelino, according to sources in Spain. Talk of United’s interest in Marcelino began in March but died down amid their late-season mini-revival under Keegan. However, the Magpies are said to be one of a handful of clubs to have contacted Marcelino’s agents this week following his resignation as Racing Santander coach. And the Sunday Sun understands that United have been in regular communication with the 42-year-old’s representatives via a member of their new scouting network in Spain. Marcelino — full name Marcelino Garcia Toral — stunned Spanish football by securing a sixth-place finish for relative minnows Santander in his first season at the club. But he walked out on Wednesday, insisting Racing do not have the resources to fulfil his managerial ambitions. He has since confirmed that Valencia and “other teams” have spoken to his agents. But with Valencia having only just unveiled Unai Emery as their new coach, it seems unlikely Marcelino will start next season there. And he and Newcastle are directly linked through scout Pablo Longoria. Having identified several new signings for Marcelino at Racing last summer and during his time at previous club Recreativo de Huelva, the Sunday Sun can reveal that Longoria — thought to be just 21 — is now talent-spotting in Europe on behalf of Newcastle. And with the two men remaining close, it is little wonder that talk is rife in Spain of a United approach for Marcelino. Longoria is liaising with Newcastle’s technical co-ordinator Jeff Vetere in scouring Europe for bright young talent. But the young Spaniard has no professional background in football, with his apparently encyclopaedic knowledge of players across the Continent said to be gained from the Internet. There's hope for a few on here yet!

Guest Geordiesned
Toon eye Peru star Vargas NEWCASTLE are weighing up a move for Peruvian star Juan Manuel Vargas. Vargas is attracting interest from several top clubs after impressing during two years in Italy’s Serie A with Catania. But United are considering trying to hijack the 24-year-old’s mooted moves to either Inter or Fiorentina in Italy or one of the several Spanish clubs on his trail. Vargas, who can operate at left-back or on the left side of midfield, is nicknamed Catania’s Roberto Carlos. He has been instrumental in the Sicilian club’s survival in Serie A following their promotion in 2005/06. Rated at 8 million euros (£6.4 million), Vargas has won 15 caps for Peru, several of them alongside former Newcastle favourite Nobby Solano. Bearing in mind Longoria's credentials, anyone know what he's like on FM? EDIT: Seems from a quick search that he's rated as the best left back in Serie A and both Liverpool and Real Madrid are interested in him. Forget that one then.
