Still the 5th "biggest" club in England?

From NUFC.com:

In the 103

Replacing the previous G14 group, European football clubs including Newcastle have banded together in a new organisation named the European Club Association.

103 clubs from the 53 nations that participate in UEFA competitions form the group, with membership being initially based on current rankings.

That means that Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool and Newcastle represent England in the ECA, which will be based in the Swiss city of Geneva.

Get in there UEFA rankings! Something else to tell prospective signings, "we're in the ECA, you know? Spurs aren't!"... undoubtedly to be responded to with "the what?".

We've got Freddy Shepherd to thank for that, lads and lasses.

Please join me in a million-minutes applause.

Sorry if Ashley is going to get the blame for where we are now he also has to receive any congratulations due even if it was years ago when this mess/success started.

How far behind are the UEFA rankings like?

Aye but the years we were in Europe, we obviously built our reputation in the rankings.  Glad to see these UEFA rankings actually count for something like.

Very true, the same man who got us there, also destroyed us with decisions such as sacking Sir Bobby.

Not really, if you check out the full list you will find that even Millwall and Southampton are included in the top 103 clubs replacing G14.

Basically it includes virtually every club that has played in European competition and if you fast forward to 2009/2010 we are way down the list and are even behind the likes of Boro and Bolton.  We need to get back into europe at the end of the season to climb back up the list.

Er, isn't it only 5 teams from England though? Milwall and Southampton will only be in the top103 because of the England co-efficient which applies to every team in England - their own performance is added to this figure.

I take it that the 103 teams involved aren't the "top" 103 ranked teams because of the 5-per-country rule?

Why 103 though? If it is 5 from each country where does the 3 come from?

I assume its a maximum of 5-per-country from the 53 member nations, so Belgium, Romania, Poland, etc will have 1/2/3 representatives

Erm... there are only 5 English teams in it, man, and we're still 14th in Europe as far as the UEFA coefficients go, despite not being in Europe 2 out of the last 5 years.

Had we been in Europe last season and got to the quarters of the UEFA, we could have been as high as 8th in Europe!

You can imagine it now:

"Tell us, why did you sign for Newcastle over Tottenham, Everton and the other teams in for you?"

"Well it's simple isn't it, Newcastle are among the five English teams in the European Club Association. That's an honour"

Obviously its not going to sway a players decision to join us, but it can only be good that our board members will become more familiar with the boards of all Europe's leading clubs.

Yes and will become familiar with a pile of shite as well.

How did man City get in? when did they last play in Europe?
