Guest Dev
I couldn't be bothered reading 30 pages, but it seems pretty clear. KK is not a moron, he can tell that Milner isn't up to being a first team starter in the EPL. So he told Milner he's getting in a replacement in and he can expect serious bench time this year, and Milner wants to leave. Excellent. Now only Duff and Smith to go. Baggio
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a statement tomorrow saying he's withdrew the request.
Liam Liam Liam O
Who said that? Souness, I think it might have been between going out of Europe and playing Man U at Cardiff, it was around that time anyway. Around about the time he was deciding that players like Robert didn't win you matches as well IIRC.

Spider Jerusalem
The main problem that I have with the whole thing is the timing. Hand in a transfer request at the end of the season or before pre-season starts - you don't wait until the season starts. Also, going bleating to the PFA hasn't helped things - now it is a known fact that we have an unhappy member of staff and will get shafted in the transfer market or end up with an unhappy squad member until January, which we will not want. The PFA are his agents so he hasn't gone "bleating" to them. Who is to say he wanted to leave at the start of the window? If he really was intent on leaving I am sure he would have put the request in ASAP to make sure there was time to make his move, I am sure it would pray on his mind a little he may now be left at a club where the fans know he wanted to leave, hence his request to keep the whole thing quiet in the first place. Thought the PFA (The Professional Footballer's Association) were a union and not an agency the last time I'd heard of them. First time I've ever heard of them acting in this way in any sort of transfer.
Cajun
They do act for him and assume as his advisers they would be part of any meeting he had with the club. I don't think many players use the PFA, they prefer your "sell their own granny for a fiver" sort.

The PFA are representing him, he's not bleating to them and I doubt Milner is the type of player to get a strop on if he's still here once the window closes. Dokko
If Milner does go then I'd like to thank him for his efforts both on and off the pitch, the lad is a model pro who has always tried his best. I can't think of any player who has been treated so badly by the club yet he's taken it all on the chin. We almost flogged him to Villa only to change our minds at the last minute and we've had the manager publicly stating that we'd win nothing with a team full of James Milner’s. I wish him luck as a player and a person, some of the comments in here are pathetic, Milner has always worked his bollocks off for us and if life was fair he’d be a top player, which he isn’t. I can’t think of any player who has worked as hard as Milner over the last few years and he’s done that for us, the club and himself. Agreed, but he's seriously fucked up with the transfer request & the PFA have in turn made his position untenable with their statement today. Sorry but how? Telling everyone its basically down to more money. So we offer a new contract and its all sorted, no move, his position isn't untenable, he didn't make it public. He doesn't deserve a new contract though. If he wants to leave, he should be prepared to have the fact in the public domain. All the club have done is confirm what he has told them, without giving the intricate details. The decision on that bit has been made by the PFA. Could quite easily have played the "European football" or "Need a change" card and moved on with people's best wishes. Still that's the route his "advisors" have chosen for him. All valid points, and yes imo he doesn't deserve a new contract, but i'd be more pissed off if he gave the waffa cup crap as a reason to leave. What really gets me, and this is comical in my eyes; is that Taylor only 10 months ago with contract running out wanted an improved deal to match Milners, and the club said no, only 6 months ago he still wanted the same deal, and the club fuked about while the fans slated the shit out of him for demanding it (or rather his dad making an ill advised choice) yet his contract runs ever closer to the bone during the summer, and if you are to believe since his new deal has been signed its upset Milner, who now wants the same as him! Meaning, our bullshit wait about strategy has not only cost us a considerable wage hike in one player, its upset another. Now i hope i'm reading this right, as that's what a lot of people on here seem to think has happened, if so... Comical set of events drawn out by a joke of a club, sorry like, but nothing ever changes round these parts, we're our own worst enemy.

Maybe he should then, with the selfish 'I want more money than I signed on for' actions of the past twelve days, as he's selling us (fans, colleagues and the club) right down the river. Mick
Was pretty sure the season was finished when Souness said that, but not sure. Either way, he's still been in our first team pretty much the whole time he has been here, he's hardly been treated awfully has he? He was definitely here when Souness opened his mouth. I know Milner has been given loads of games and I'm not trying to say that he's a top player but I think the two things I mentioned are fairly shit and undeserved. I think it's a credit to him that he's just got on with his game. I wouldn't be too happy if my boss went to the press and publicly put me down and I still think our handling of his transfer to Villa was poor so we'll just have to disagree about that. But why go public with this then. Leave it in house and if you get a move or new contract then fine. Instead we have been left with a disgruntled member of staff that needs replacing in five days where the vultures are going to be circling knowing that we have to get rid. Guest microbar
Nice one newcastle piss another player off we should have sorted a deal out for milner ages ago. But we stall once again, God knows how we are going to replace milner in 7 days. We must have one of the smallest squads in the premier. and about to loss another, what are the board trying to prove. Cajun
I think the club are going public with this in an effort to force Milner to reconsider. - Milner wants a new contract, but doesn't really want to leave. - Milner hands in transfer request thinking "I'll definitely get a new deal because they won't want to lose me". - The club don't think he deserves a new deal. - The club make public his desire to leave, thus making it look like they don't mind him leaving, in the hope that Milner will eventually back down. In the meantime they continue to reject offers because "they don't match our value of him". Yeah doesn't sound too crazy. I really hope he stays now

If Taylor was given the new contract earlier surely Milner would have just asked for more sooner, I don't see how the timing would affect anything. Because his contract was closer to running out therefore he has the club exactly where he wants it, desperate not to see a player leave for free, therefore have had to offer more than he originally wanted 10 months ago. It wouldn't surprise me if the same thing is happening right now with Owen, over a fuking barrel. I did explain this to people several months ago, a lot of people stuck their head in the sand though. Spider Jerusalem
The club went public, the PFA responded. Not Milners fault this has all come out. Wasn't aware of the 'schedule' of things today - only heard of this at 4:30ish today whatn there was already a sizable thread on this when I came online, but surely asking for a transfer in the first place makes this at least partially some of his fault, which by the sounds of it comes down to nothing but greed. Pretty much is IMO, he handed in the transfer request, and his "agent" has released the details of his financial reasons for wanting to leave.
