I bet some posters don't quite know what to do now. They've both released official statements, shit, who do you believe?!?

Cognitive dissidence is a bitch, like.

So's cognitive dissonance. :)

So surely Keegan knew what the score was for quite a while then. If he felt that strongly against it, couldn't he have walked away from it earlier?

Of course he could have walked earlier, maybe he thought things might change for the better.

Well seeing as he last until Sept 2nd, he surely should have known it would be 3-4 months before they "interferred" again, and he could have just got on with managing the team.

And if we're 15th at Christmas, who gets the blame for that with the fans and with the papers?

While if we're top 8 which is just as likely, who gets all the praise?

Not really the point is it? If KK thinks he's been left with a sub-standard squad because of false promises to him, he's the one who'll get the bullet if it all goes to shit.

And plenty people (including yourself) are praising the "recruitment team" because some of our new players have had a good game, so it could just as easily be them. When results aren't forthcoming though, there is only ever one person (other than the players) who gets the flack.

And neither can Keegan:

Apparently this is what Dennis Wise said himself about his role, back in February - interesting....;

Wise explains role at Newcastle

Newcastle executive director Dennis Wise has insisted that manager Kevin Keegan has the "final word" on all football matters at the club.

Wise left his role as Leeds boss earlier this week to take up his position with the Premier League club.

"I'm here to help Kevin, bringing young players through and also recommend certain players to him," said Wise.

"He'll say yes and no, he has the final word, no-one else. Everything that happens will be run past him."

"A lot of people have got mixed up with the reason why I am here. I'm not here to be involved in the first team, I'm not here to manage.

"I have to concentrate more on the academy, we need some young blood coming through of our own. We need to look abroad for players and that's my intention over the next few years."

Keegan has insisted that the appointment of Wise was made with his blessing and that he believes the new structure will be successful.

He said: "I am all for the changes and I approve of them. They want someone on the board who understands football, and Dennis understands football very well.

"It will work very well. Dennis reports to me - the chain is established.

"The club has become slightly fragmented. From my point of view, it's a positive thing - provided I get all the help I need.

"I know what Dennis is going to do, and the idea in principle is good - to look for new players, to bring youngsters through and do things which our academy isn't doing so much at the moment."

Keegan also revealed he was involved in the appointment after speaking to owner Mike Ashley before he returned as manager.

"I knew about it. It's not a surprise to me, it might be to other people," Keegan told BBC Radio 5 live.

"Two or three names were given to me when I first sat down and talked about the job with the owner. One of them was Dennis.

"I know Dennis. I know he's intelligent. I know his job here is to help me. He's on my side.

"How can any manager be against someone who is going to come to the club to try to bring in talent?

"It's right for this football club. A lot of people outside might be shocked about it. I think in the long term it's the right decision. It's something that needs to be done."

The difference being, how was KK to know then they were 'going to go behind his back'?

These quotes were before the whole transfer window farce.

Indi, if you can't see that what Keegan said when Wise was appointed is in sharp contradiction to how the system has finally worked out by the club's own admission tonight you are beyond help:

Keegan:

"It will work very well. Dennis reports to me - the chain is established.

(...)

"I know what Dennis is going to do, and the idea in principle is good - to look for new players, to bring youngsters through and do things which our academy isn't doing so much at the moment."

http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sport/football/article-1053127/Newcastle-target-Zola-Keegan-exit-descends-war-words.html

Kevin Keegan's departure from Newcastle United descended into a public slanging match last night as the row between the club and their former manager looked to be heading for a multi-million pound court case.

Owner Mike Ashley made the first moves to replace Keegan by targeting former Chelsea star Gianfranco Zola, who was yesterday interviewed for the vacancy at West Ham, and Spanish pair Jose Antonio Camacho and Marcelino Toral.

But the argument about the reasons why Keegan quit is set to continue long after a new manager is appointed.Keegan walked out of Newcastle on Thursday, claiming boardroom interference prevented him from doing his job after transfer deadline day saw Michael Owen and Joey Barton offered for sale without his approval and the club bring in two players he had never seen play or asked the club to sign. Newcastle yesterday issued a strongly-worded statement denying that anyone had stopped Keegan performing his contractual obligations.

It read: 'It is a fact that Kevin Keegan, on appointment on January 16, 2008, agreed to report to a director of football and to the board. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan, as manager, had specific duties in that he was responsible for the training, coaching, selection and motivation of the team. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan was allowed to manage his specific duties without any interference from any board member. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan agreed only to deal with the media in relation to club matters relating to the team and not to communicate with the media in relation to the acquisition or disposal of players.'

However, the club's statement made no direct reference to Keegan's complaint that, despite assurances to the contrary, transfer dealings had been conducted without his knowledge or approval, a point taken up by League Managers' Association chief executive Richard Bevan.

He presented evidence that Ashley and his executive director football), Dennis Wise, had both publicly stated Keegan would have the final say in transfers.

Keegan said: 'When I joined Newcastle it was made very clear to me that I would have the final say on player movement in and out of the club.'

And Bevan pointed to quotes attributed to Ashley in an interview in the current issue of the official club magazine, in which the owner says:

'If the deal is right - and that means the right player who Kevin wants - then we will do that deal. Kevin is very particular about who he wants. To use his words, they have to have the right heart. That is massively important for him. If they don't, then he's not interested.'

Wise was quoted in February expressing similar sentiments.

'I am here to help Kevin as much as possible with bringing young players through and also recommending certain players to him. He will say yes or no. He has the final word,' he is reported to have said.

'I am not going to do things like bringing players in behind his back. Everything that happens will be run past him and he will say yes or no.'

The issues may well be tested in court, with Newcastle apparently determined to claim the £2 million they claim Keegan's contract says he must pay in the event of his resignation, and Keegan considering a case for constructive dismissal.

Ashley, meanwhile, is beefing up his personal security in the wake of the backlash from Newcastle fans, with former SAS men and Gurkhas being lined up to safeguard both him and his home.

Statement in respect of further comments from Newcastle United F.C.

The directors of Newcastle United Football Club have late this evening issued a statement. The League Managers Association and Kevin Keegan made the following response.

Richard Bevan, LMA chief executive, said:

“Kevin Keegan’s chief complaint, amongst others, is that it was always agreed that the director of football could not impose a player that the manager did not want. This agreement has been broken and, notwithstanding the fact that the chairman at the time of Kevin Keegan’s appointment, the director of football and the owner of Newcastle United, have confirmed previously in public meetings and publications, that he would always have the final say.”

Kevin Keegan said:

“At the time at which I joined Newcastle United Football Club it was made very clear to me that I would have the final say on player movement in and out of the club.”

The following quotes are reproduced from published articles:

In the Evening Chronicle (Newcastle) on 1st February this year, Newcastle United’s executive director of football, Dennis Wise, said: “I am here to help Kevin as much as possible with bringing young players through and also recommending certain players to him. He will say yes or no. He has the final word. No-one else. I am not going to do things like bring players in behind his back. I am not into that. Everything that happens will be run past him and he will say yes or no.”

In an interview that appears in the September edition of the official Newcastle United magazine Mike Ashley said: "If the deal is right - and that means the right player who Kevin wants - then we will do that deal. Kevin himself is very particular about who he wants. To use his words, they have to have the right heart for Newcastle. That is massively important for him. If they don't then he's not interested."

ashley and wise can't really argue with their own words.

And neither can Keegan:

"I'm here to help Kevin, bringing young players through and also recommend certain players to him," said Wise.

Keegan says there that Wise reports to him. clearly that changed sometime down the line. not sure what point you're trying to make though, Keegan quotes Ashley and Wise both saying the structure works one way, the club's statement says otherwise. if anything keegan's words emphasise that point and further undermine the club's statement.

i beg them not to do this, it will tear the club apart.

even if it is for their own safety they shouldnt do it.

if this is true (and i hope its not) then it shows keegan has no option but to wage a war of words through his union, whereas Ashley and Co are simply doing it out of spite, irregardless of the harm caused to the fans or the club.

maybe they are sick of it just want to fuck as many people over as they can before they get out

So two massively conflicting stories, the club has been deadly quiet all summer yet all this has been leaked from all angles. The press were notified at 8.30 on Tuesday morning, so things have moved fucking quickly. What's the general consensus then? The papers trying to make Keegan out to be the twat in all this?

I'm thinking this is exactly what they're doing.

They can't seriously expect tonight's statement to do anything other than inflame an already volatile situation. If there's any truth in anyone wanting to make an offer for the club, as long as he gets his money back I think he'll be off before you can say "resale value".

That's what I meant by scorched earth policy.  Sure as hell seems like it.

Anagram of 'Mike Ashey Dennis Wise" - "Swindle Messiah? Ye, I Ken"  Ok, so it's tenuous.  The board went down, I had to do it.
