Baggio
'we move on the next 5 will' 5 more managers to come and go to your well run club I'm not sure well run and sucessful are the same thing. Do you think the next manager will be sucessfull? If he fits into the 'new structure' and is a decent coach, maybe. But that doesn't take away from the fact that Keegan was royally shafted and a lot of people believed in him. It looks to me that Keegan was the one trying to shaft Wise, messing the club about over transfers and then using his popularity to try and get Wise the sack. Guest lktmpl
We'd have been just as short on strikers if they'd managed to peddle owen, except we'd have had an unproven kid instead of the bloke that has been scoring every week for months. But if the club thought Owen wasn't going to sign a new contract then it makes sense to get rid of him now instead of risk losing him for nothing. They also wanted to shift Smith and Barton, 2 sales the majority of fans were shouting for. It looks like Wise was making the decisions with his head and Keegan making them with is heart. I am going to get shot down now but - id get rid of Owen. The wages and the 'not knowing' are unsettling. Don't kid yourselves - he's leaving, thats why hes for sale Milner asked to leave and we sold him - for a lot of money. Best business we have done for ages. Theres a thread from ages ago talking about profit on players well we made one and still no-ones happy. Milner was'nt good enough. The fact that Keegan said he was clouded everyones judgement. "But if the club thought Owen wasn't going to sign a new contract" You knew that? You must eb well connected. I'd say the people running the club and offering contracts are more connected than us. If they thought Owen wasn't going to sign a new contract even after being offered a pay rise then i don't blame them for trying to move him on. Or just thinking that he was employed as a manager (as is in English football), watched Wise et al appear, then watch most of his say on how he could build HIS team disappear. It shows Ashley's complete lack of knowledge of football, if he EVEr thought Keegan would fit into that structure.

GM
Ah come on now people. We've all loved Kevin as a player and a manager - and we appreciate the fact he wears his heart on his sleeve, and we all know he loves the club with the same deep and abiding passion as we have. But please, do try and take a step back and see things with a bit more of an objective eye - we all know that Keegan (God rest his soul) could be a petulant bastard, and a prima donna to boot. Wullie
Keegan was desperate to keep smith but was also doing everything he could to keep him off the field? Righto. If he wanted to keep him it was probably because the crack recruitment team hadn't bothered to buy players before the last day but was more than happy to sell them off. Do you honestly believe that they tried to sell every single member of the squad? Or perhaps they made it clear that every player had a certain value on his head that would have been too good to turn down... Unfortunately, we don't have anyone that is good enough to be classed as irreplaceable or un-sellable. 99.999% of players in world football would be sold if the right bid comes in for them. Keegan was building him up to sell him. Anyway - your post makes no sense - you think Keegan chose who he sold but couldn't choose who he bought? According to the media - if Ashley wanted Smith gone he would sell him regardless of Keegan. Did you want Smith to stay or go?

Wullie
Smith would have gone if he wasn't going to have to take a massive paycut for anyone to have him. I want him gone. So did kk. That's why he wasn't even getting off the bench once our strikers were back last season. The idea that we should have kept dennis wise ahead of kevin keegan because kk 'wanted' alan smith is absolutely laughable.

Sign a striker. so do i for what its worth, but what i think and what they think are not more important than what keegan thinks, and if you intend on keeping him as manager he needs full support and your trust. of course what we've prooved is that keegan was unsackable, so once they got themselves into this mess they couldn't sack him, then their only option should have been to back him, instead they tried this idiotic arrangement, that was never going to work, and its backfired. their fault, although i can see what they were trying to do.
