Mike Ashley could of won over ALOT of supporters today.  A pure half arsed effort!!

He never stood a chance, the volume and signings that would have made people praise him was impossible.

(Sorry, but it's could have.)

Utter bollocks.

Well come on then, what would you have been happy with? And how does that compare to what any premiership club in a similar situation has done in January?

Obviously they would not fail medicals as we knew they were fit, any well organised club would have deals lined up for this exact situation OR hurry their other deals through.

We were in clear negotiations with man city over one of our players, during this time if we wanted one of theirs we would/should have made it apparent in some way. If they said no but given wanted to leave anyway it makes absolutely 0 sense to then bid for one of their players unless we did it purposly because we knew it would get rejected.

Anyway Ashley already gave Kinnear 10 mill according to him remember. Ashley will lose a whole lot more if we're relegated, this isnt really a place to be talking about his finances. Facts are EVEN IF our deals hadnt gone through (we clearly knew they would days ago) we STILL should have spent money to assure our survival in the prem.

There is no excuse for this situation. Maybe you should ask yourself why you keep trying to find some.

given failed his medical twice (if we're to believe various sources) so to spend the money from that before its confirmed would be stupid. if we had a deal lined up and givens fell through then what now? say sorry and send the player back?

if you genuinely believe we bidded HOPING it gets rejected then thats pathetic. i agree we should have spend some money but we just dont have very much. we are a sell before we buy club thanks to......someone.

They also dont have their 14 players out with injury especially to those in key positions. They also have just released their best goalkeeper have they.

Stop comparing us to other sides, it is quite clear we are not in equal positions.

not a keeper specifically but some of them have got considerably weaker by selling good/their best players. we havent got THAT much weaker as harper is more than able and n'zogbia wouldnt have played anyway.

according to physioroom, most of our players are back this week/month so its not like they're all out for the season.

who should i compare us to then? chelsea? villa? everton? or just the teams we're fighting against?

Only portsmouth sold a couple of their better players, thats about it.

Our squad was small 3 seasons ago, every season we are crippled with injuries and do not strengthen in depth...every season we end up getting screwed because our best players our out.

Our best players this season are the likes of Given (sold), Owen (injured), Martins (Barely coming back), Guthrie (Not even that good) & Jonas (good but apparently cannot cross or shoot). Finally Bassong who has been best for me.

Reality is, even with the likes of Viduka, Guthrie, Jonas etc this season we have been losing games and looking awful.

The point about the injuries is now Carroll & Colo are on the injury list, every week new players are on the injury list. What are the chances, we'll get some more by the end of the season. It looks pretty certain to me, our fitness training is clearly complete sh.te. We now because of this window STILL do not have the depth to replace any players that go out.

Other sides will not have to worry about this anywhere near as much.

This is most likely what will screw us in the end. If martins gets another injury we have no goals in the side.

Who was the other 8 mill for? I know we bid for johnson (even though man city probaly told us he wasn't leaving when we sold given). I'm not reading back over 40 pages since I was last on :cheesy:

Has JFK or anybody made any statments yet??

many thanks

Unidentified and nope.

Edit: Well, Ryan Taylor but I assume you mean someone in charge. He's very happy, btw.

It isnt very complicated. We are incredibly likely to go down this season, this is what you seem to be failing to understand.

If we go down Mike Ashley loses far more money than anyone expected him to invest in our side.

Those of us annoyed feel it is quite clear our squad probably doesnt possess the ability with our current injury crisis that we conistantly go through to win many of the games we have coming up. We feel we would have been in a much better position to achieve this had we brought in a few more DECENT players.

It is now apparent we would have had more than enough money to do this & Ashley should have spent regardless of how likely it looked for money to be coming into him. The fact we havent done this makes it an incredibly dangerous scenario for us.

more teams around us have gone backwards or stayed the same than moved forwards imo. sunderland have done very badly, for example. others that have improved slightly weren't all that great to start with. its a cliché, but getting martins and viduka back will be like new signings.

i completely agree that the injury situation is a joke but as its an annual thing, surely the better thing to do would be to work out WHY its happening instead of just buying "filler" every window? we could save ourselves so much work by fully looking into that problem instead of using it as a (valid, i suppose) excuse.

the "losing games and looking awful" part really annoys me too because under keegan (or any competent manager) i know we'd be doing better than we are. kinnear is so far out of his depth is very worrying. a good manager getting us playing well would solve a lot of the problems on and off the field.

The very least they could do was to make sure they knew what City wanted for Johnson before making the offer. It's bloody obvious that they aren't interested in improving the squad.

What a bunch of f***ing morons. We haven't a clue what bids we made, who we held talks with, who we may still be holding talks with and yet people still pour themselves over these media sites expecting the God's honest truth. Selective reading at its very best my friends.

For all we know we're still working on deals behind the scenes, we might not, we haven't a f***ing clue. Look at the summer for an indication of how unpredictable we are in the market.

Indeed, we can only go on the tangibles - tangibles you are blind to. Shy of an unlikely surprise, they are bad - Ashley's organisation has, at best, failed to achieve necessary successes. At worst, they didn't attempt to achieve them.

But at the end of the day if we haven't strengthened the team any further, it's a bit like yesterdays result. It doesn't put us any closer to the drop but it doesn't really help either. We are still well capable of staying up, it isn't the end of the world man.

You seem to think we are operating in a sealed environment. We are not. Yesterday's result was us failing to win a relegation six-pointer at home. Those are the matches that must be won to stay up. Any assumption to the contrary takes it as true that we're as likely to draw against Man United, Liverpool (1-5) et al at home. In case you forgot through lack of interest, Sunderland won the converse fixture - a direct relegation rival of ours now holds a two point advantage over us.

We don't have a lot to go off but a few sources corroborated we made an eleventh hour bid for Johnson. If this was indeed the case why was it so late? Were bids elsewhere rejected? Did talks break down? If so why did they break down? It isn't as simple as saying Ashley failed, we are only getting a key whole view of the full picture, until we know the reasons behind the lack of activity it's difficult to hold the recruitment team accountable. All that can be said is this is a disappointing transfer window due to a lack of personnel being recruited.

Regarding your second point in an ideal world it is a game we needed to win. However you've got to take into account injuries, the fact it was a derby and Kinnear's general failings as a manger. The worrying thing is in the short term two of these things are unlikely to change. However in the long term we still have several opposition relegation rivals to play, should things pick up by then and given we pick up the off point from teams above us we should survive. A good transfer window would have helped in the short term but at the end of the day this squad is good enough to stay in the Premier League, we just need to drop this attitude of feeling sorry for ourselves.

Do you think we simply possess extraordinarily bad fortune, then? Maybe Napoleon was right, then, preferring lucky Generals to good ones. This is as simple as saying Ashley failed. We can go over the reasons for why that failure took place, but it's definitely a failure. Why do these big bids keep going awry? Good question. We'll just have to go on what is demonstrated before us - Ashley's administration repeatedly fails to advance NUFC's fortunes and has us staring at the prospect of relegation. Re: bold, indeed - who's apparently offering him another 2 1/2 years in charge?

You’re looking at a rather wide context when my point was a pretty narrow one to begin with. Yes Ashley has failed in some departments. His lack of footballing experience led to the events that unfolded earlier this season and his lack of due diligence on the club means he inherited a few nasty surprises when he bough it. That's to name just two of his errors I'm not praising or in fact defending where he's taken us as the club as a whole I was simply reflecting on the transfer market.

In the context of this transfer market though did Ashley fail? We just don't know. He appointed a recruitment team who along with Kinnear only brought the three fresh faces in. Indeed this is disappointing but can we categorically point the finger at them or are there external factors to consider, maybe in this instance we were simply unlucky, until the picture becomes a bit clearer we just don't know.

So yeah looking at the big picture it would certainly appear Ashley’s failings have had a major contribution in where we are now. He started a chain of events which led to the main contributing reason for our position today. But to then say "oh Ashley has consistently made mistakes, so this transfer window must be his fault" which essentially what your insinuating, is a completely illogical argument.

I don't see how I'm taking your points that widely. What I'm saying is 'we've consistently failed to get what we need in transfer windows while under Ashley's administration' and I'm identifying that a factor present in each of those windows is Ashley's administration. There's more to it than that, of course, there's the fact that all three of his managers have expressed deep dissatisfaction with the way his administration conducts its behaviour during windows, for example. Seems logical, then, to hold suspicions.

If we ARE going to look at the wider picture, then things look even worse. There's the fact he's gone through three managers in 18 months and the latest of them is Joe Kinnear. Wider circumstances thus make the results of our affairs with the transfer market even more important. This latest failure is all the more significant, therefore.

I think it's a bit unfair to call the last transfer window a failure in terms of the actual business we did. Selling Milner without a real replacement was a disappointment but all in all it was pretty good. The defence isn't perfect but looks 100% better, we brought in a winger, an attacking midfielder and a striker. Yes with hindsight for various reasons some haven't worked but the two notable disappointments are the two that haven't been given a chance for one reason or another.

The consistent problem is we continue to sell so we're never addressing the issue of depth. I'm all for selling off the dead wood or even average first teamers for the right price and that's what we have done. Unfortunately in doing this we've left ourselves a bit short and this has been exposed horribly by the recent injury crisis.

We had a chance to address this in this window and that's why it is particularly disappointing. So I'd say we have got what we wanted it's just we've left ourselves with no back up as such which in its self in an error but not one to constitute all of the Ashley regime's transfer windows a failure.

Other manager's have expressed their dissatisfaction about the way things are done but I don't think that's because the transfers themselves it's more the fact they weren't getting the specific players they wanted. That's a mistake of appointing the wrong man for the job, not of bringing in the wrong players. A mistake as you correctly pointed out fits into the much bleaker wider perspective.

We needed 2 full backs as we have no cover, we "bought" one.    (Edgar is not a reserve full back before you say owt)

You speak of 2 midfielders that we bought in, Nolan (replacement for injured Barton) and Lovenkrands (who sees himself as a striker.)

That is not reinforcing our already threadbare squad size.

Where is the playmaker we need and have been crying out for, for ages , wheres  the  right winger we need or do you think that Geremi is sufficient for the role, or perhaps you you are happy watching square pegs in round holes like Duff or Jonas playing on the right wing?

We are short of numbers, Allardyce said so , Keegan said so, JFK even said so and Ashley has done nothing to alleviate the problem .

Never mind though, your mate Mike can have stonking night out at the casino blowing the shay Given money though, eh!

1918: Miguel Veloso's agent Paulo Barbosa reveals that Newcastle also made an offer for the midfielder, but Sporting rejected that as well as two bids from Bolton. They must really like him. "This is what a footballer's life is like," mused Barbosa.

Does anyone else feel like they've been raped?

So we're actually £10 million up this transfer window, and at best we broke even in the summer. Where the f*** is the INVESTMENT?!

We're in a f***ing relegation battle here.

We haven't even signed any youth players apart from that Vuckic kid.

I can't put into words how down I feel about all of this. The immense hope i felt when we drew against Man Utd on the opening day of the season now seems a distant memory, and may well be one false dawn too many.

i wouldnt be so sure about the medical thing. he did have a knee injury and it was a rather strong rumour. if kinnear is to be believed, he had £10 million 2 weeks before given went and was bidding on players. make of that what you will.

there are/will be 3 worse teams than us come may. its obviously going to be close for about 5 or 6 teams but im still a "1".

you say "decent players", who do you mean? with the rumoured £10 million we had at week 2, who would you have bought?

we cant just spend our way out of trouble without getting some back in. we arent like that anymore. its that mentality (to a point) which is limiting our finances to this day.
