LooneyToonArmy
we are short of keepers like --- A number of Premier League clubs are looking to open talks with German goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller in January, skysports.com understands. The 28-year-old is rated as one of the best goalkeepers in Germany and is on the verge of an international call-up. Borussia Dortmund are desperate to hand Weidenfeller a new long-term contract with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season. However, the former Kaiserslautern shot-stopper is set to take advantage of the fact that he is free to talk to rival clubs in January. Dortmund have offered Weidenfeller a three-year deal - but with clubs from England and Italy showing an interest, he could be set to depart his homeland. A number of English scouts have been in attendance at the Signal Iduna Park in recent weeks and have been impressed with that they have seen and the fact he will be a free transfer next summer is sure to appeal. German sources have claimed the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, West Ham, Bolton, Middlesbrough and Newcastle are amongst those interested. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11678_4340301,00.html

Segun Oluwaniyi
It would make no sense to bring in another experienced talented keeper. If we bring him in...we would have the most "good" keepers of any team in the world.

A lot better than what we've got bar Given from that report, get rid of My Average at the end of the season and bring in some real competition for Given. Sounds like a good plan to me, saying that no owner ready to put money in or a long term manager will see him end up elsewhere.
Chris_R
How on God's Earth can we seriously be linked with anyone when we have an interim manager, Tony Jiminez has gone and the chairman is selling up but nobody yet knows who to?

LooneyToonArmy
Reports in Greece claim Manchester United have firmed up their interest in Olympiakos starlet Kryiakos Papadopoulos. The centre-half is considered one of the best defensive prospects in European football. Still only 16, Papadopoulos is already part of the first-team squad at the Karaiskakis Stadium and became the youngest player in Greek League history last season. United have been keeping checks on Papadopoulos since he made his debut and they were one of a number of clubs to enquire about him over the summer. Now it is claimed by leading Greek sports paper Fos ton Spor that both United and Newcastle have made firm offers to the Athens side. It states that both Premier League clubs have confirmed they would be willing to pay €4million (£3.1million). It remains to be seen whether Olympiakos would be willing to talk, as Papadopoulos only recently signed a new long-term contract with a get-out clause of €6million (£4.6million) and that is likely to be the fee they demand for the youngster. Guest JamesyJazz
Without any realistic sign of stability sign of stability both on the managerial and ownership front at the club,no right minded player having a basic level of intellect would be crazy enough to even contimplate coming here. Imho if we don't have a change of set up come January I can see us offloading a couple of players from an already small squad. Then again a month or so's a long time in football,it could all be brighter and better by January
Guest koenji
27/10/2008 22:38 PSG Chase N'Zogbia? Newcastle midfielder Charles N'Zogbia may be on his way out of St James' Park come January. Unconfirmed reports in the French media suggest that Newcastle United's left-sided midfielder Charles N'Zogbia may be a target for Paris Saint-Germain. The French U-21 international, who has struggled to hold down a consistent spot in the starting eleven on Tyneside, may well be keen on a ove back to his homeland. Were he to sign for PSG, then he would have the opportunity to link up once more with Guillaume Hoarau, the striker with whom N'Zogbia starred in Le Havre's youth team. 22 year old N'Zogbia would be a useful addition at the Parc des Princes, providing cover as he does for both left midfielder Jerome Rothen and left-back Sylvain Armand. N'Zogbia has performed well in both positions for Newcastle. The player's contract at St James' Park runs until 2012. However, the current uncertainties that surround the situation on Tyneside would be enough to unsettle any player. N'Zogbia may well feel that a move back home would provide him with the stability he needs to develop his career. With an interim manager and a derby defeat at the weekend, the Frenchman is unlikely to be the last Newcastle player linked with a move away from the North-East. Guest koenji
PSV chief Reker: Afellay too good for Man City, Newcastle PSV Eindhoven will only consider selling midfielder Ibrahim Afellay to a big European rival. PSV chief Jan Reker insists Afellay won't leave in January and said: "If he ever leaves, he leaves for a top club. "He should not go to Middlesbrough, Newcastle United or Manchester City." Reker added: "The agreement with he and his agent is that he finishes this season here."
